• Development of sensitive methods for chemical characterization of environmental samples employing Gas Chromatography-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (GC-TOFMS)
• Organizing and conducting urban aerosol sampling campaigns where urban particulate matter is characterized using micro-aethalometers, Optical Particle Sizers (OPS), Condensation Particle Counters (CPC), diffusion size classifiers and nephelometers
• Sampling urban particulate matter using Sioutas Personal Cascade Impactors for chemical characterization
Conducting routine analysis on raw materials, bulk and end products via Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (HPLC-ELSD) and Attenuated Total Reflection-Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-IR)
• Investigating Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS) in end products
• Investigating customers’ claims and providing technical feedback
• Development and validation of methods of analysis for volatile compounds within raw materials and final products (food and beverage primary packaging materials) using GC-MS
Besides the responsibilities assigned to me in my earlier job at “Delta Pharma” the following are added:
• Participating with the registration department in handling the correspondences between the company & the ministries of health of other countries (Including Egypt).
• Issuing the batch record for the manufacturing process of all products.
Responsibilities include:
• Implementing the designated formulations for:
A) Human Dosage Forms:
Tablets, capsules, dry mixes, syrups, suspensions, suppositories, creams, ointments & solutions for injection.
B) Veterinary Dosage Forms:
Dry mixes, suspensions & solutions for injection.
By preparing small-scale series of experimental trials.
• Correlating the results of the performed trials and experiments and recommending changes in formulations & procedures so that optimal parameters can be achieved. And simulation of the production conditions to ensure the applicability of proposed formulations & procedures.
• Reporting, documenting and summarizing the results of experimental trials and other data into a format that allows easy review by superiors.
• Gathering information about new chemicals and products.
• Interviewing inspectors of the ministry of health & ISO inspectors as representatives of the company.
• Issuing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing of any new product.
• Production support by participating in scaling up and validation protocols.
• Manufacturing the first three batches "Validation Batches" of any new product in production.
• Responding to Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs) and participating in investigating and solving production problems & customer complaints.
• Establishing and maintaining a database of chemicals, samples & trials.
• Reporting deviation in laboratory instruments and supervising the calibration process.
• Instructing workers and technicians about the dangers of chemicals and the operational hazards of laboratory instruments. And demonstrating the proper ways of using the instruments and handling the chemicals.
It's another freelance job which allows me to do what I feel to be my duty of spreading knowledge and getting paid for that.
My assignments included:
1) Translating commercial posters and editing them in Photoshop.
2) Translating texts on the packaging of some healthcare & beauty products.
3) Proof reading of translated user manuals.
Monitoring the production process and receiving in process control (IPC) samples from production batches to conduct different quality tests, such as:
Density, flow rate, solid content, gloss and applying test.
If the results aren't in the permitted range, recommendations or instructions are provided to the production manager in order to alter the results to optimal ranges.
I used to work as a private chemistry teacher, tutoring some students of the "Chemistry Department" in the faculty of science (Tanta University) in the following courses:
- Analytical Chemistry: Inorganic Qualitative Analysis, Volumetric Analysis, Complexometry, Gravimetric Analysis, Spectroscopy & Chromatography.
- Inorganic Chemistry: Electrochemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry & Chemistry of Coordination Compounds.
- Physical Chemistry: Gaseous State Chemistry, Principles of Quantum Chemistry, Kinetics of Chemical Reactions & Photochemistry.
- Organic Chemistry: Mechanisms of Chemical Reactions & Stereochemistry.

My summer training was my first professional contact with the process of monitoring the quality of chemical products in the practical world. I spent my training doing tests such as: Dry & wet roughness tests, wetting time test, acidity test, humidity tests, suspensibility test, determination of the hardness of water and determination of the concentration of active ingredients using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
I also gained a big deal of valuable knowledge about Pesticides and Toxicity, all summarized in a 27 pages report.
Major: Analytical chemistry, Minors: Physical and inorganic chemistry Research activities: • Analysis of bacteria signaling molecules via Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) • Handling the dynamic contact angle measuring instrument & tensiometer (DCAT 11) and the optical contact angle measuring system (OCA 15EC) • Synthesis & luminescence of doped metal oxides involving X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV/Vis Spectroscopy • Investigation of Gypsum hydration using light microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), XRD and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Currently in level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages And I passed the examinations of the levels A1, A2 with the following scores: A1: Very Good A2: Very Good Certificate of participation (Teilnahmebescheinigung) Attendance: 132 out of 132 sessions
