• Provide subject matter expertise and consultation on various fire protection related issues across the government, petrochemical and power generation industries.

• Performed a variety of related work such as initiating reports, correspondence relative to assigned projects, assembled performance data and conducted studies relative to project development, procurement or adaptation of equipment; interpreted the meaning and application of codes and standards, reviewing operating procedures and safety instructions; acted as technical consultant for operating problems.
• Functioned independently to implement the Hanford Site and CHPRC Fire Protection Program policies and procedures.

• Maintained the Fire Protection Design Basis of the Oconee Nuclear Station.
• Developed, planned and coordinated/implemented special projects, corrective action plans, and improvement programs to address station problems or regulatory sensitive issues.
• Supported fire protection program implementation and design; while maintaining conformance with station license, codes and standards. Sic NFPA 805, and 10CFR50 Appendix R.
• Oversaw the development of drawings, design studies, modification packages, specifications and detailed design for fabrication/modification of nuclear station equipment and systems; while maintaining the fire protection program and safe shutdown capability of the units.
• Evaluated and optimized design alternatives via risk-informed performance-based analysis methods.
• Responsible for the content and quality of Fire Protection Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), System Design Descriptions, Equipment Specifications, Licensing Documents, Fire Hazards Analysis, NFPA 805 evaluations, and hydraulic calculations.
o Designed numerous water-based and special purpose fire protection systems as part of the multi-billion dollar design phase of the Uranium Processing Facility at the Y-12 National Security complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This included but was not limited to conducting HASS hydraulic analyses, authoring various DOE Design Analysis Calculations, preparing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and verifying of code compliance.
o Conducted and aided in the development of Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA) consultation and preparation at the Y-12 Uranium Processing Facility and the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant under both DOE, and NFPA code standards; including risk-based analysis for the fire loading of the facilities.
o Conducted and aided in the development of Mechanical Ventilation Soot Loading calculations under DOE, and NFPA code standards in a nuclear environment for input into the facility FHA.
o Automated the reporting and calculation process through application of prior computer programming experience, which led to a direct time savings of 60+ man-hours per final calculation generated. Over a four-year period of utilizing this tool, an estimated 10, 000 man-hours were saved.
• Developed and analyzed numerous complex CFD simulations using a combination of CONTAM, Exodus, and FDS; including a CONTAM analysis of a 600 million dollar mixed use complex.
• Provided concise code consultation and plan review for various projects under numerous state amended ICC, and NFPA standards.

The Fire Protection Engineering undergraduate gives students a strong engineering education grounded in the fundamental concepts of physics, mechanics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Combined with these skills is the application and design of engineering systems. The fire protection engineering degree teaches the student how to protect people, homes, workplaces, the environment and the economy from the devastating effects of fires.
