As a Manager Mechanical Utility, my responsibilities included managing and supervising the mechanical utility operations within the power plant, which included monitoring equipment performance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and optimizing efficiency. monitoring the performance of mechanical systems and equipment such as turbines, generators, boilers, and pumps analyzing engine data, identifying inefficiencies or issues, and implementing corrective actions to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
I was responsible for Maintenance an Engines Caterpillar, Jenbacher, Wartsila, and MTU.
I worked at Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Karachi Electric Company (K Electric), the 2nd largest Power Utility Company in Pakistan and holding a position of Deputy Manager Mechanical and leading a team of 2 Associate Engineers and 5 Technicians.
Job responsibilities:
1. Responsible to depute the work force (Technicians & AE’s) inside the respective areas as per the demand, and to re-arrange their duties as per the need of work for
to complete all the works with effectively & efficiently with zero rework on daily basis.
2. Responsible to carry out the preventive/ Corrective/ breakdown maintenance, housekeeping, safe and sound working processes, to establish general safety for all the tasks carried out in the following areas;
• Centrifugal Pumps-Cooling Water Systems
• Steam Turbine
• Gas turbine
• HDPE line Maintenance
• Heat exchangers
• Reverse Osmosis Plant
• HRSG
3. Responsible to plan all tasks in a smooth manner especially in all kind of outages in order to reduce their down time in order to maximize production (MWs) of the Plant.
4. Responsible to work on SAP (CMMS) for all corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, work orders, Debt notes etc.
5. Responsible to monitor the Oil Room, Tool Room, distribution of tool kits to all Technicians & Associate Engineers working in mechanical department.
6. Responsible to check the status of inventory inside my jurisdiction.
7. Responsible for all kinds of internal and external audit regarding OHSAS, ISO etc for mechanical department.
8. Responsible to maintain the daily attendance record of all Technicians & Associate Engineers working in Mechanical Department.
9. Responsible to observe the daily performance and to maintain the daily attendance record & performance sheets of Continental workers/Painters working in the plant.
10. Responsible to carry out all safety task in the department & Risk assessments inside the floor and to reduce the level of risk.
11. Responsible for making all important documents, Memos inside the department for enhancing performance and to deliver the presentations as assigned by bosses on different topics to updating ourselves as well as our staff.
• Supervise/Optimize maintenance function.
• Carried out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of Rotary equipment, Turbo Chargers and their auxiliaries.
• Carried out Alternator scheduled maintenance related to mechanical scope.
• Overhauling and testing of various pneumatic actuators and valves.
• Ensure operability status of engines and auxiliaries in co-ordination with operations and other maintenance staff.
• Ensuring optimum performance from fuel and lube oil purification system.
• Equipment Inspection, major and minor maintenance and trouble shooting.
• Writing technical specification for mechanical maintenance.
• Performing static pressure test on individual cylinder units to determine valve conditions.
• Starting & synchronizing the system with the Grid.
• Supervision of Exhaust Boiler operation, shut down and isolation for maintenance work.
• Plan, organize and execute forced and planned outages
• Keeping close watch on the critical performance indicators
• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)—MP2
• Prepare Monthly Maintenance Reports as required by plant management
The plant consists of Gas Engine power stations.
Joined Maintenance department, worked on Wartsila SACM Type Gas Engines, and on its complete auxiliary machineries.
Bachelor of Engineering Technology (B-Tech) in mechanical from Government college of technology Karachi (GCT) affiliated with (NED) university of engineering and technology Karachi in 2000
