Network Engineer à Sizwe IT

I am currently employed as a Network Engineer at Sizwe IT Group Africa and perform data and voice networking tasks on managed and outsourced services in the following technological areas:

Main Outputs and Responsibilities:
1. Internal policies, procedures and processes
- Familiarisation, adherence and compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Familiarisation, adherence and compliance with all applicable ISO 9000 and processes and procedures

2. Site Survey
- Equipment installation in accordance with upgrades on the current equipment; or
- New equipment installation and implementation in accordance to the organisational requirements; or
- Receive a request for installation of equipment and analyse to determine the nature and extent of the installation.
- Determine dependencies and independencies to other equipment
- Inform the equipment /systems owners of dependent equipment/systems and the action required
- Analyse the equipment/systems specifications in terms of implementation requirements
- Conduct the appropriate pre-implementation testing in accordance with test cases and scenarios.
- Develop an installation plan to ensure smooth implementation
- Determine the relevant role players involved in the installation/implementation and their responsibilities
- Submit the necessary change requests for the installation/implementation indicating action and dates
- Conduct a workshop to consult all relevant role players and assign responsibilities


3. Bill of Material
- Develop and document accurate bill of quantities utilizing in house skills and preferred sub-contracts

4. Deploy Network Infrastructure (WAN & LAN)
- Arrange the installation/implementation and ensure minimum interruption of system availability
- Conduct the installation/implementation process in accordance with the implementation plan
- Close the change request in accordance with procedures
- Monitor the equipment/system and dependent equipment/systems to ensure that the equipment/system operates according to standards and specifications
- Document the installation/implementation processes and archive for future reference purposes
- Develop the appropriate equipment/system manuals
- Install equipment/systems in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
- Install equipment/systems within the allocated time frame

5. Troubleshooting and Corrective Maintenance
- Fault identification during the execution of the preventive maintenance
- Identify the fault using the necessary diagnostic tools
- Consult the relevant work instructions/procedures to determine the repair actions required
- Repair faults in accordance with standards and specifications
- Escalate to the relevant role players for a solution
- Test the solution to ensure that functionality is restored
- Monitor the solution for functionality on the site
- Provide feedback to the relevant role players
- Document results for future reference purposes

6. Self Development
- Responsible to keep abreast of technology changes and ensure the update of certifications in line with technology updates
