STUDY OF VORTEX BREAKDOWN IN A CYLINDRICAL CONTAINER WITH FINNED WALLS A comparison between the experimental visualization and numerical simulations of the occurrence of vortex breakdown in laminar swirling flows produced by a rotating cylindrical wall with and without fins is presented. The steady Naiver– Stokes equations in cylindrical coordinates of stream function and vorticity formulation are solved numerically using a fine grid meshing by using the principle of axisymmetric flow to define the vortex breakdown problem.
