Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is a dynamic center of commerce and government located in the middle of the Arabian Peninsula on a large plateau. Amongst the most rapidly growing cities in the world, Riyadh is home to more than 5 million people.
Challenge
Traffic congestion in Saudi Arabia’s capital is a growing concern for residents and visitors and a potential barrier to continued economic growth. A state-of-the-art, fully automated rapid transit system is a primary component of the Kingdom’s efforts to facilitate robust economic growth while providing Riyadh’s population with a high level of service.
Solution
Louis Berger, as the lead firm in a joint venture with Hill International, was awarded a contract by the Arriyadh Development Authority to provide program and construction management services for Package 3 of the Riyadh Metro project. Package 3 is an $8 billion project involving management of the design and construction of Line 4, Line 5 and Line 6, as well as 22 stations, in the new metro system. These three lines include:
67 kilometers of track.
48 kilometers of elevated alignment.
5.5 kilometers of mined tunnel.
Nearly 13 kilometers of bored tunnel.
Line 4 will link to the King Khalid International Airport. Line 5 will run in a tunnel along King Abdulaziz Street, between King Abdulaziz Historical Centre and the Riyadh Airbase. Line 6 will run in a semicircle from King Abdullah Financial District, along Imam Mohamed Bin Saud University and end at Prince Saad Ibn Abdulrahman Al Awal Road.

Responsibilities:
Monitor the implementation of the project management systems by both of PMCM and D&B contractor, and its effectiveness, through document reconciliation and other appropriate means, liaising closely with the appropriate Senior Project Manager and construction personnel.
Initiate actions to eliminate inconsistencies and to achieve the acceptable quality standards.
Assisting construction personnel to develop the required quality documentation.
Assisting in reviewing all type of quality procedures, ITP and Checklist for each and every activities which are going to execute for the permanent work for above mentioned project.
Verify the ISO 9001-2008, conformance on all factories / manufacturers / vendor qualifications, where appropriate
Verify the materials compliance and conformity with the design / specifications of the international standards (British or American) and take decision to reject or accept
Review and Coordinate the technical work of the department and project teams.
Ensuring that all equipment used for measuring and testing is in calibration and such records are available
Establishing a filing system for quality records and maintaining such files.
Issuing the required reports to the Quality Assurance Manager or his nominee
Providing guidance and assistance to project staff with respect to any aspect of the management system
If required Conduct internal (1st part) and external (2nd part) Audits on Project department and Contractor’s premises respectively.
Monitor the quality control indicators and alert Const. managers / Project Engineer in cases of deviation and propose corrective measures to be applied.
Review Contracts, Specifications, Laboratory Test Results, M.S., Proposed and follow-up corrective actions on the quality management system.
• Project: New Assiut Barrage and Hydropower Plant.
Project Background : The New Assiut Barrage across the Nile River consists of: Hydropower Plant with 4 bulb turbines 32 MW, Sluiceway with 8 radial gates with discharge 7000 m3/sec, Double Navigation Locks ( 220 m length and 17 m width), Right and left closure dyke ( 3.5 km length), Public road bridge, River bed protection, Diversion canal, Rehabilitation of the existing head regulators and Service buildings.
The reinforced concrete quantity was 380, 000 m3. The earthworks quantities were 5, 000, 000 m3.
- The Barrage was constructed under five contracts - Civil Works, Hydro-mechanical Equipment, Bulb Turbines and Generators, Electrical Equipment, and Transmission Line, in full accordance with Egyptian environmental laws and international guidelines.
• Client: Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
• Consultant: was a European consortium / Lahmeyer International (Germany), Sogreah (France), Electrowatt (Switzerland) in association with Arab Consulting Engineers and Electric power Systems Engineers ( Egypt ) .
• Title: Senior Quality Assurance / Quality Control Engineer
Responsibilities:
Ensure implementation of all QA/QC Procedures, QC Plans and Work Instructions.
Liaise with the Customer Representative for the conduct of day-to-day Quality related activities. Verification of testing equipment (Measuring Monitoring Devices) related to the job as per requirements.
Verify correct materials are utilized for the works carried out.
Ensure fulfillment of all inspection & test requirements at all stages as per the Contract requirements.
In process and Final Inspection of all civil jobs carried out at site/yard in coordination with Client/Third Party Inspector
Preparing Documentation and compile test packs for all jobs to meet client requirements and as per specification.
Advice Service Contract personnel in taking appropriate corrective & preventive action on NCR.
Conducting various training program for the foreman, site engineer inorder to provide the knowledge of the work activity as per the project requirement to get the good quality at site.
Review Drawings & Specifications, Laboratory Test Results, Inspection and test plan, and Method Statements for implementation.
Ensure that the process of work is in accordance with the method statements and approved drawings are followed.
Supervising labor and sub-contractors to ensure that work is carried out in accordance with works procedures and instructions.
Preparation and implementation of weekly and monthly program.
Coordinate daily inspection and meetings.

Removing top soil, install fences, workshop area, offices, roads, jv camp ( 12 villas ), laboratory building, welding area, rebar bending area, purification plant, treatment plant & landscape ( inspection for all excavation, concrete & arrangement works ) .
Earth work :
Coffer Dam Filling works , Slope protection, Dredging, River bed protection, Cut-off wall single phase & deep wells, Dewatering, Monitoring for wells, Excavation at Construction Pit .
Concrete Work :
Cut-off wall, Diaphragm wall at piers, Blinding concrete, Reinforcement concrete.

Quality Control For :
Foundation work (diaphragm walls - slurry walls - piles - Berlin walls - grouting, ……..)
Civil work (slabs - columns - beams, ……)
Arrangement works (masonry - plasters - ceramics - granite, …….)
Make inspections for all structural elements foundation, columns, and slabs and check all the dimension, axis, formwork, reinforcement (number, length, diameter) and levels of pouring.
Follow up concrete pouring for foundation, columns, and slabs.
Audit and monitor quality requirements in accordance with the company quality assurance policies and customer specifications.
Ensure calibration and maintenance is performed on inspection equipment.
Conduct various tests and quality checks on finished products. Insure that all product have been tested and fall within standards, measured to specifications and within tolerances, readability of labels, etc.
• Project: GRATER CAIRO METRO LINE 3 ( phase1 )
