Promoted to Office Supervisor (in addition to Senior Interview Officer) in October 2020. Responsibilities include:
- Direct line management of two employees (Interview Officer and Program Support Officer), including day-to-day supervision, oversight of operations, and reporting into unit management,
- Uploading completed case files to the Global Case Management System (Canada’s case management software),
- Approving orders for office stationery and supplies, documenting purchases in cash books, and overseeing petty cash and float,
- Managing the transportation log for driver and car, ensuring that all trips are logged by distance, mileage, destination and sign-off,
- Liaising with foreign offices to coordinate on transportation and transits.
- Securely managing all documents on office premises, in accordance with building and organizational security protocols,
- Coordinate office activities, arrange meetings and events by scheduling appropriate meeting times and places,
- Reviewing cases completed by colleagues and updating the information provided.
Turkey Database Project
Consulted on humanitarian assistance programming for Afghan migrants in Turkey via aggregating and analyzing datasets under the supervision of Unit Manager (FOCUS).
Responsibilities include:
- Studying the situation of Afghan Migrants in Turkey (irregular migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, IDPs, stateless, RSDs),
- Analyzing 702 Afghan cases:
- Identification, composition, basic monthly needs, work and educational backgrounds, assistance received, illnesses and traumas, future plans, risks to life and safety in Turkey, risks to life and safety in COI,
- Prioritizing and proposing durable solutions for legal and/or physical protection needs and vulnerable cases including resettlement to Canada through AKDN
- Cases which required immediate health attention, person at risk of sexual or gender-based violence, or adult or child experiencing family violence, exploitation or abuse.
Interview Asisstant (form filling)
FOCUS supports the Embassy of Canada to Lebanon’s initiative to resettle Syrian and Iraqi refugees from Lebanon to Canada who are referred by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). FOCUS conducts admissibility and security/background interviews with refugees on behalf of the Embassy and returns completed files for determination.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Undertaking detailed reviews of UNHCR Resettlement Registration Forms (RRFs) and noting refugee client’s backgrounds, history, reasons for fleeing country of origin (COI), and any special considerations that might affect interview process,
- Conducting in-depth interviews with refugee clients in Arabic to verify RRF contents and input them into Canada’s Convention Refugees and Humanitarian-Protected Persons Abroad forms package in written English, including:
- Family size and composition, work and educational backgrounds, addresses, travel history, illnesses and traumas, membership of associations, organizations, and government positions, military service, and active social networks.
- Reporting on any serious and substantial inconsistencies or gaps between UNHCR RRFs and refugee client’s interviews to the Embassy of Canada to Lebanon,
- Additionally, ensuring that where the spouse to a marriage may not be able to divulge critical information in the presence of partner due to fear of persecution or intimate partner violence (e.g., prior experiences of sexual harassment or violence during displacement), holding separate interview with the spouse in a closed and confidential environment,
- Ensuring that interviews are conducted in a respectful, confidential environment, considering refugee client’s experiences with trauma, sexual and gender-based violence, detention and torture, as well as sensitivities related to LGBTI cases,
- Staying abreast of conditions in COI (Syria, Iraq), including:
- History of war or armed conflict, restrictions on freedom of movement within and outside country for refugees, basic geography, role and status of women, attitudes towards homosexual relationships, terms of punishment for criminals, political offences, mandatory military duration,
- Staying abreast of political developments in Lebanon and any impact on refugees and asylum-seekers in Lebanon, and advising management.
