Director of Projects for major Power and renewable energy EPC projects
Responsible for leading multi discipline project management teams comprising Project Manager, Engineering, Procurement, HSE and project control (cost and schedule) for EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) projects (Domestic and International) to deliver:
• Full project cycle covering: Pre-FEED, FEED, Design Basis Memorandum DBM, P&IDs, detailed engineering, Hazop, process control philosophy and architecture, constructability review, Procurement and subcontracting, construction, testing and commissioning management.
• Preparation & management of bid packages (technical and commercial) for various subcontracting and procurement packages
• Development of a detailed budget, execution schedule, risk management and financial management of the projects.
• Development of a detailed project execution plans including engineering plan, construction execution plan, subcontracting plan, project control (cost and schedule), logistics plan and risk management plan for all the projects.
• Development & management of interfaces, development of interface matrix, P&ID interfaces, interface sketches
• Set up project teams and mentor other project Managers during the various phases of the projects.
Key projects cover: Power Generation, High Voltage Substations and Transmission Lines, Power distribution system, Central Control Room including all the process control systems (DCS), Central Processing Facilities CPF, Water Treatment and Injection plant for Oil production, utilities system, crude oil storage and shipping.

• Secondment to Rio Tinto (2017-2018, through Advisian/Energy Resourcing) to work on Aluminum Smelter (Kitimat Modernization Project), Iron Ore of Canada IOC (Labrador)
• Responsible for leading multi discipline project teams and tendering teams for delivery of major engineering, construction and procurement (EPC) projects & Tenders for power & mining development schemes. To date projects have included Mining (Smelters), Hydroelectric generation projects, and power transmission and distribution projects, including transmission lines, substations, power distribution grid, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), process control, telecoms, control and protection, electromechanical, civil construction, installation, testing and commissioning works.
• Management of preparation of bid proposals (Technical and Commercial) for EPC projects including conducting presentation to executives as well as the client, management of JV agreements and Consortium agreements.
• Contract management & negotiations including primary contract, supplier agreements and subcontracts. Monitor performance to ensure adherence to agreed contract terms, taking appropriate remedial action as required, including managing all claims.
• Management of detailed estimating and tendering process for major power EPC projects covering both technical and commercial bid submission.
• Maintain full P&L responsibility for all projects, working to competitive business targets. Manage all budget preparation and control, trend analysis, forecasts, cash flow analysis and cost control.
• Manage multiple multidisciplinary teams including project management, engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and HSE.
• Set up project teams and mentor other project Managers during the various phases of the projects.
• Develop work packages for construction and materials, coordinate the constructability review for each project to ascertain viability and explore potential risks and opportunities.
• Manage all subcontractor and supplier activities from initial bid through commercial and technical evaluation to negotiation and agreement of subcontracts and orders.
• Manage all engineering activities from initial concept and design through engineering to completion. Coordinate all on-site activities including site setup, mobilization/demobilization plans, civil engineering/construction, erection, testing and commissioning.
• Manage all project planning, metrics, progress measurements and reports. Collate all project data to produce detailed monthly progress reports.
• Project stage gates (internal and external): preparation of deliverables and conducting the presentations.
• Conduct and supervise pre-feasibility studies and feasibility studies including technical and commercial evaluation of various options and solutions for execution as well as a detailed technical and commercial reports.
Key projects include:
• Lower Churchill project - Muskrat Fall 824MV Hydroelectric generation Station($7bn) and associated Power Transmission Infrastructure
• Renewable Energy: Project development manager for Vauxhall solar farm 17.6MW
• Genesee Thermal Power Generation upgrade - Alberta-Canada
• Western Alberta Transmission Line (WATL) 500kV Edmonton to Calgary EPC (C$1.5bn) - 347km 500kV HVDC transmission lines, two 500kV AC substations and two 500kV HVDC convertor stations (EPC turnkey including civil construction and electromechanical). Successfully delivered project on schedule and under agreed budget.
• Project Manager seconded to Rio Tinto Alcan RTA Smelter in Kitimat BC: 860MW Hydro-Electric Power Generation Plant upgrade & Aluminum Smelter process modernization, Process Control systems upgrade
• Responsible for project management and contract management of major oil and gas EPC turnkey projects, with full P&L responsibility for a number of onshore and offshore developments across the UAE.
• Manage all client liaison, leading progress meetings with client representatives, colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors. Ensure all parties are aware of project developments and all relevant information.
• Project stage gates (internal and external): preparation of deliverables and conducting the presentations.
• Key duties included multidisciplinary team management, client liaison, technical specification development, project execution strategy development, work package development, constructability review assessment, supplier and subcontractor management, on site engineering management, contract management, claims management, project planning, budget and forecast management, cost controls, risk assessment and QA/QC and HSE compliance.
• Conduct and supervise pre-feasibility studies and feasibility studies including technical and commercial evaluation of various options and solutions for execution as well as a detailed technical and commercial reports.
• As Tendering Manager, responsible for overall management of all tendering activities on oil and gas projects, including reviewing tender documentation, preparing bids, managing cost calculations and cost analysis, managing subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating with client and agreeing final terms.
Key projects included ADNOC:
• ADCO onshore gas compression project- 3x gas compression stations, process control, 33/11kV distribution network, DCS and civil works.
• Zirku Island co-generation upgrade- Upgrade to existing power generation plant (adding two gas turbines, HRSG, heat recovery system for jot oil system, and integrating the new generation units into the power plant DCS).
• ADMA-OPCO EPSU (Electrical Power System Upgrade) offshore, DCS/SCADA and process control systems upgrade
• ZADCO ACPT offshore upgrade- Upgrade of DCS, emergency shut down (ESD) and process control facilities. and extension of platform.
• Responsible for winning contracts and managing a series of power system development turnkey projects across Qatar and the UAE, including thermal power plants, HV substations, Power distribution grid, SCADA, reactive power compensation, control and protection, power generation plant interconnection, electromechanical, civil engineering and construction phases.
• Managed all activities from conception through to completion. Led multidisciplinary project teams, developed overall project execution strategy, reviewed technical specifications, coordinated all client liaison and progress meetings, managed subcontractor package bids, managed contracts and projects schedules, managed on site engineering activities, managed projects budgets and forecasts, and coordinated all HSE, QA/QC and regulatory compliance issues.
Key projects included:
• Jebel Ali L-Station Phase I for DEWA - Consortium for EPC of 900MW Thermal Power Generation Plant Combined cycle and new 400/132kV substation including interconnections with power generation plant.
• Jebel Ali L-Station Phase II for DEWA - Consortium for EPC of 1200MW Thermal Power Generation Plant combined cycle and new 400/132kV substation including interconnections with the Power Generation Plant.
• Kahramaa Phase VIII (US$1.2bn) -two new 400/220/66/11kV substations, EPC of three new 220/66/11kV substations, EPC of two refurbished 132/66/11kV substations, 150 kV 66 kV cable works and 120km of 132kV cable works.
• Responsible for managing a series of power system development turnkey projects across Egypt and Saudi Arabia, including HV substations, Power distribution grid, SCADA, reactive power compensation, control and protection, electromechanical, civil engineering and construction phases. Projects were typically valued at US$20-100m.
• Managed all activities from conception through to completion. Led multidisciplinary project teams, developed overall project execution strategy, managed subcontractor package bids, managed contracts and projects schedules, and coordinated all HSE, QA/QC and regulatory compliance issues.
• Also acted as Tender Manager, responsible for the overall management of the tendering process for turnkey HV substations in Saudi Arabia. Coordinated the technical and commercial analysis on each tender, preparing suitable competitive bids and managing all liaison with clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

• Prepared design and interface drawings, analyzed systems, coordinated all liaison with suppliers and subcontractors and prepared technical files to support project bids.
• Worked as Project Engineer in the E&I package of a US$2.4bn oil and gas EPC project.
• Scheme included the upgrade of the existing power generation plant, transmission line, distributed control system (DCS) and instrumentation and control systems for the entire oil and gas process, crude oil process plant, gas compression plant, pipeline corrosion inhibition and cathodic protection.
