Cipher Investment is an investment firm focused on creating joint ventures with large Japanese brands in IT, F&B and Automotive sectors. The firm is managed by Fahad Al Gurg, ex-Merrill Lynch, ex-General Motors, advisor to the Ruler’s Court, and a member of the prominent Al Gurg family.
• Responsibilities:
‒ Conduct research on potential business ventures
‒ Hold conference calls with potential strategic partners to understand the business opportunity and scope of work
‒ Analyze macroeconomic and microeconomics conditions, industry peers and target segments for potential business ventures
‒ Provide the board with research reports and market analysis on potential business ventures
‒ Create an internal document/presentation for the board to assist them in making strategic decisions
‒ Create presentations, brochures and marketing documents for Cipher, its entities and agreed business ventures
Reason for leaving: Company is shutting down due to financial difficulties.
• Capital Raising:
‒ Regular updating of marketing materials, including the investor presentation, website, financial summary, executive summary and the corporate brochure.
‒ Setting up, monitoring and updating Greenstone’s data room.
‒ Responding to DDQs from potential investors.
‒ Preparing documents for the Greenstone capital raise, including the capital raise data center, share capital book, placement summary report and the capital raise plan.
• Fund Placement Support*:
‒ Delivering an investment teaser for every new client that is onboarded.
‒ Issuing placement summary reports to all the clients each week (Currently this involves completing over 20 placement summary reports each week.)
‒ Updating the Fund Placement Data Center for Fund Placement’s weekly call with the CEO.
‒ Drafting/improving client’s investor presentation and performing valuation for selective clients.
‒ Maintaining documentation quality by ensuring that the formatting and alignment is consistent.
‒ Adding new investors to Salesforce (CRM system) that are provided by Fund Placement.
*Note: There were previously three employees fulfilling these tasks, which I performed singlehandedly, along with my other responsibilities.
• Operations:
‒ Delivering an Action List to potential clients covering the entire pre-roadshow timeline.
‒ Assisting the Head of Operations in completing the “excluded investors” and “reduced-fee investors” list on Salesforce.
‒ Improving the design and quality of documents and providing templates when needed.
• Finance:
‒ Performing an internal valuation of Greenstone.
‒ Modelling a commission structure and schedule for Greenstone’s employees.
• Analyzed trends in the financial markets using technical analysis for major precious metals futures - Gold and Silver.
• Analyzed the correlation of Euro, Yen, Pound, Dollar, Dow Jones and Crude Oil with Gold on a daily basis, and monitored their impact on current investment position.
• Tracked economic calendar for market moving economic data, to assess their potential impact on the markets and current investment position.
• Analyzed fundamentals of precious metals by analyzing weekly commitment of traders’ report, supply and demand, market conditions and various economic forecasts.
• Created daily market strategy report which contained investment recommendation for the portfolio manager based on short / medium term trends, correlation between instruments, economic data and fundamental analysis.
• Positioned to conduct research in the field of Working Capital, Equities, Fixed Income securities, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Project Finance of GCC.
• Prepared presentation slides in PowerPoint and the case studies.
• Prepared financial models in Excel for illustrations to clients.
