Doctorate, Biotechnology

at The University Of Manchester
Location : Great Britain (UK) - Manchester
Ph. D. in Biotechnology, titled: "Biotransformations using Peptostreptococcus productus", Chem. Eng. Dept., UMIST, Manchester
The potential of an anaerobic acetogenic bacterium, for the reduction of C=C and C=N bonds to produce asymmetric useful products was studied. The growth and enzyme (phenylacrylate reductase) activity was optimized in a chemostat. The substrates and products were analyzed using HPLC and GCMS. Between the prochiral substrates containing C=C bonds, nitroalkens were reduced almost completely, and amphetamine was produced from 2-nitro-1-phenyl-1-propene.
