-Lead the Ruminants R&D program of the company in addition to supporting the technical functions of the international business units. (this includes: leading a group of 16 highly qualified individuals (at the PhD and MSc. level), setting goals, planning, organizing, assigning tasks and resources, in addition to monitoring progress and coaching and supporting the team to develop their skills further)
- Continuously develop the assortment of concentrates feed products and hold responsibility for products performance.
· In co-operation with marketing, sales and product management teams, analyse market data, identify market needs and future trends and developments, and propose clear research and innovation program to address those needs.
· Create and propose clear product development programs and communicate that with the international business units to obtain full support for the program.
· Instigate, organize, supervise, analyse and report both academic and commercial trials and experiments, producing clear product development plans and/or solutions enabling the business to launch new products rapidly to the global market.
· Report and present results of all development projects to the technical and sales teams, and discuss progress and follow up plans.
· Provision of technical information to the technical and sales teams and supporting them in solving clients’ problems and addressing clients’ needs.
· Train the technical and sales teams in using new products and concepts in addition to training them on topics of relevance to the business.
· Initiating development programmes to improve current products.
· Provide written work for inclusion in company promotional material.
· Problem-solving and addressing technical teams and sales teams concerns with regard to their use of company products, solutions and concepts.
· Work closely with the nutritionists, account managers and product managers in identifying opportunities, establishing goals and strategies and implementing actions to meet business objectives.
· Attend meetings and conferences, reporting back to the technical team and using the knowledge to start discussions that can lead to developing new products/concepts or services.
· Maintain links with relevant academic bodies and remain abreast of current research in the fields of the Company’s interests, in addition to liaison with academic institutions with a view to commissioning PhD research projects.
· Review scientific publications, ensuring the company is aware of the most up to date concepts and ideas.
· Write technical articles for publication in peer reviewed journals and commercial publications.
· Talk and present at academic and National / International technical meetings and conferences.
· Support the IP officer with technical information for the purpose of patent applications.
I was responsible for many project related to improving feed efficiency and mitigating methane emission from beef and dairy cows and production systems, 3 PhD students, and 5 MSc students and a budget of one Million euros.
I conducted research projects related to improving milk fatty acid composition, grazing management and silage quality and reducing methane emission. I also was heavily involved in tutoring Msc students by giving lectures in animal nutrition and grassland management, and in supervising their thesis work.
I conducted many experiments with high productive dairy cows that aimed at understanding rumen function and its relationship with intake regulation, nutrient utilization efficiency and product quality. I was also heavily involved in tutoring and training MSc students. Specific tasks:
1- Managing, planning and conducting in vivo, in situ and in-vitro research & experiments. 2- Experimental design andstatistical analysis 3- Sample preparation and analysis. 4- Analyzing and interpreting experimental results using SPSS and reporting them by means of oral presentations and written scientific papers in high quality peer-refereed Journals. 5- Preparing progress reports and giving presentations to the funding organizations and partners involved. 6- Supervising masters (MSc.) and undergraduate students who were doing a thesis or practical work within my experiments. 7- Teaching animal nutrition courses, mainly introduction to ruminant nutrition to undergraduate students and nutritional physiology of farm animals to graduate (MSc.) students. 6- Managing the financial aspects of the project in terms of budgeting manpower and purchasing equipment and chemicals.
1- writing and evaluating project proposals related to animal production and improving living standards, productivity and profitability of animal producers in the Palestinian Autonomy and sending them over to the relevant Ministries and donor organizations. 2- Running the animal experimental farm that had 100 heads of AWASI sheep. 3- Supervising and conducting approved experiments and reporting results to the Ministry and to the donor countries involved in the projects. 4- Managing the financial accounts and aspects of the projects in terms of budgeting man-power, purchasing equipment, chemicals and animals, and contracting research farms and institutes. 5- Preparing progress reports to the funding organizations. 6- Organizing open-days for farmers and extension workers to the experimental farm to view the experiments, and present and discuss the results.
1- Advising farmers on how to improve productivity of their herds and business. 2- acting as a link between the Ministry of Agriculture and the animal producers, taking farmers problems and communicating them to the Ministry, and taking policies and technical solution to the animal producers. 3- Organizing and giving courses to communicate new technology, innovation and knowledge to farmers. 4- Assisting organize farmers in unions and co-operatives.
Ph.D. degree in animal nutrition (ruminant nutrition) from Wageningen University & Research Center, Animal Nutrition Group, Wageningen Institute for Animal Sciences (WIAS), Wageningen, The Netherlands. Thesis: Perennial ryegrass for high producing dairy cows: grazing behavior, intake, rumen function, N utilization efficiency and performance. The project aimed primarily at improving forage (mainly perennial ryegrass) utilization by dairy cows through maximizing intake and optimizing microbial conversion in the rumen. It also aimed at reducing the contribution of dairy cows to environmental pollution through the excretion of fermentation end products and improving N utilization efficiency. Another aim of the project was to improve our understanding of foraging behavior of high producing dairy cows and how they manipulate it as environmental and physiological conditions change.
MSc. Degree in animal science, specialization animal nutrition, with distinction and honors, Wageningen University, Wageningen, The Netherlands. Major Thesis: Differently processed grains as a supplement to high producing dairy cows on pasture grass. The main aim was to study the effect of thermal processing (toasting or pelleting or both) of barley and maize grains on rumen function and nutrients (protein and energy) synchronization in the rumen of high productive dairy cows. Rumen VFA and ammonia concentrations were studied extensively and VFA production rate was measured using labeled 13C pulse dosing.
