I have being working as a consultant gastroenterologist in for the last two and half years in Al Mana General hospital which is 200 bed private hospital in Dammam in Saudi Arabia. My duties are covering regular Outpatient clinic and regular endoscopy sessions covering both elective and emergencies in gastroenterology. We have established colorectal cancer screening programme.


CLINICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
To date I have managed to gain competencies in performing a wide range of clinical procedures, including:
• Gastroscopy
• Flexible sigmoidoscopy
• Colonoscopy

Within the field of therapeutic GI endoscopy I have particular experience of independently performing:
• PEG insertion
• PEG with jejunal extension insertion
• Nasojejunal tube insertion
• Oesophageal dilatation
• Variceal band ligation
• Argon plasma coagulation
• Bipolar heat probe usage
• Injection therapy for bleeding ulcers
• Use of endoclips
• Ascitic drain insertion

Other skills within general internal medicine include: • Chest tube insertion
• Pleural aspiration

As an independent GI endoscopist I conduct three endoscopy sessions per week, including both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy. I participate in a 1:6 on call rota, including weekends, for consultant gastroenterology oncall rota. I also run three GI clinics per week caring for patients with a range of GI and liver problems and am responsible for managing all gastroenterology and liver patients in the medical assessment ward.
Cover all gastroenterology and liver patients in medal assessment unit.
Attended liver outpatient clinic (once a week in) in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
Additionally, I am involved in training specialist registrars in endoscopy, as well as teaching medical students and doctors.

In this role I ran two outpatient clinics per week in which I dealt with new and follow-up patients. I attended consultant and registrar-led ward round, as well as nutritional ward rounds, and participated in a 1:8 on call rota covering the MAU as a registrar. During this time I gained experience in endoscopic management of GI bleeding, as well as managing patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcer disease, functional GI disorders and different GI malignancies.
