The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
•Provide high level management of the consular caseload - including
Arrests/detentions, hospitalizations, medical evacuations, deaths, assault, theft and Whereabouts cases of Australian citizens in Libya
•Maintain statistics and written records of cases, including reporting to DFAT in Canberra and the Australian Embassy Rome.
•Liaise with local hospitals, police, lawyers, social services, airlines, government and non-government authorities and other contacts on consular matters.
•Assist with the preparation of the Embassy’s consular and emergency planning.
•Execute notarial acts including witnessing signatures.
•As back up Passport Officer, provide the full range of passport services to Australians, as well as Emergency Travel Document processing for Australians.
•Manage protocol procedures for Australian Embassy staff and families, including the renewal of diplomatic ID cards, and diplomatic visa applications.
•Undertake consular duties out of hours and on weekends, as required
