As a volunteer in this mixed-practice setting, my duties include planning and implementing disease surveillance, management and interventions and implementing prevention and control measures. I do these through ambulatory, medical and surgical interventions, which sometimes require disease reporting, in compliance with public health and preventive medical practice guidelines.
My contributions have resulted in positive outcomes as I have been able to help our clients cut down losses up to 70%, as compared to their previous experiences.
My duties in this role include organizing capacity building workshops and public health enlightenment seminars for community clusters, farm owners, their staff and other team members. Other duties include rendering technical and professional support to livestock farmers, with particular interest in poultry, ruminant and piggery farmers.
Among my achievements include supporting the company's growth which recorded a 20% growth in 2021, making the company the market leader in terms of market share.
While in this capacity in the second most strategic market comprising of the North Central and Eastern Nigeria, the quality of technical and professional support I gave to livestock farmers, through workshops and seminars to train participants on public health concerns, acceptable standards, as well as the application of hands-on solutions.
This earned me a ‘B’ rating and an award as ‘Departmental Star of the Year 2017’ from Olam/Crown Flour Mills Limited, as my contributions contributed towards making us the market leaders within eighteen months of the roll-out of operations.
I was part of a two-man team that was responsible for setting up the regional diagnostic laboratory for the north. The lab was fully equipped as at the time I voluntarily resigned, with full capacity for microbiological and some virology diagnostic capacity. I was also responsible for delivering technical and structural consultancy, ranging from advice on type of operation, nutritional considerations, equipment, housing including product marketing, targeting hatcheries, and general livestock production operations as well as quality control and assurance standards.
I underwent an eighteen-month training in hatchery operations and management, breeder and commercial poultry management, livestock nutrition, diagnostic laboratory procedures, and the delivery of technical, structural and medical consultancy to livestock farmers.
As the pioneer field officer, I introduced the company products to the Northern market using territorial mapping techniques. I also carried out creation and management of accounts, market surveys and analysis of competition and was able to attain a 20% growth within a year.
I also organised cluster meetings for livestock farmers, where I trained farm staff on proper management practices among others. With these tasks came a lot of reporting which were sometimes done through presentations, which I was able to deliver in most cases with short timelines and little to no supervision.
My efforts opened the market such that additional staff were recruited to manage the growing market.
My duties involved conducting disease diagnosis, management and advise on prevention and control measures mainly to small animal, large animal and poultry farmers. Interventions I carried out in this capacity included execution through medical, surgical and ambulatory interventions.
My contributions to the clinic were helpful in the retention of various retainerships as well as securing of new contract agreements that we had and was mainly due to my sterling clinical and surgical skills.
In this role, I was responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of diseases of livestock of primarily large animals, particularly the nomadic herders.
I was head of a team and was responsible for coordinating and implementing the annual vaccination campaigns, epidemiologic disease surveillance and reporting of incidences and outbreaks of reportable diseases.
I graduated with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.

Earned my West African School Certificate
