Contractor at Procter & Gamble / School of Mathematical and Enginnering Sciences
  • Belgium
  • November 2010 to August 2011

• On-boarding training in supply chain business analytics, involving also an overview of transportation, warehousing and customization at the Supply Chain Innovation Centre in Brussels.
• Leading a joint project between P&G and City University London on Supply Chain Finance which focuses on identifying, implementing and optimizing innovative approaches (i.e., cross docking) to end-to-end finished-product supply chain distribution operations.
• Defined the typologies of such operations and implemented all possible end-to-end supply chain (cross docking) configurations that exist today in the supply chain industry.
• Developed in Excel VBA extensive software applications that can calculate multivariable-dependent costs’ surfaces addressing all possible business and operational conditions present in the P&G and their partners’/clients’ systems;
• These software applications were constructed to simulate to the closest the P&G (complicated) operational and strategic models already in place in Western Europe and are used for: (1) future senior-management strategy planning; and (2) substantial costs’ reductions initiatives.

Intern at DHL MANAGEMENT LTD
  • Switzerland
  • July 2009 to September 2009

As a member of the GCS (Global Customers Solutions), Business Operations (BO) and Financial Analysis of Customer Trends (FACT) team, I was responsible for developing standardized data validation mechanisms for financial controlling purposes. Subject to this financial analysis were the monthly recorded Business Unit (BU) GCS customer profitability data of the regions of EMEA, AP and the Americas; these data are specifically related to the highest revenue - total of Euro 8 billion - 100 DHL customers who are in turn associated with 6 industries and more than 220 countries worldwide. A series of interactive computer programmes (in Excel VBA) were constructed with the express purpose of implementing suitable statistical models tailored to the specifics of the distinct business models of the DHL BUs.

As a result large volumes of monthly customer financial data (i.e., 8000 plus customer data for the DHL BU EXPRESS) could be automatically processed based on the newly constructed codes.

Instead of engaging moderate to large teams of finance specialists to analyse the most critical data of these data, one would solely need to automatically perform the same task with the simple press of a button for all data; as this process requires the analysis of data of all BUs as well as all regions, there is a substantial benefit in saving time (i.e., less than an hour is required for the validation of 8000 customer financial data or less time depending on the hardware specifications) notwithstanding the obvious advantages of obtaining higher reliability in validation and avoiding the possibility of human error.

Process improvement potentials for consolidation and controlling of EXPRESS and FREIGHT financial data of all regions were investigated and identified. As a result pre- and final-close data validation processes were effectively enhanced leading to considerable improvement of lead times and customer data quality.

Post doctoral researcher at Technical University of Munich
  • Germany
  • May 2007 to August 2008

Managed various scientific and multi-disciplinary projects concerning mathematical models that were delivered on time. The models were used in other projects to understand scientific issues more clearly.
Developed and presented proposals that generated substantial research funding. As a result research in physics, chemistry and spectroscopy were pushed forward.

Created unique theoretical models for scientific data analysis that explained areas of science that could now be explored.

Delivered speeches on physico-chemical subjects at leading scientific institutes which were well received by leading international scientists. The speech content acted as a catalyst for expanding their own research.

Post doctoral researcher at The Ohio State University Medical Center
  • United States
  • January 2007 to March 2007

Established a new chemistry laboratory aiming at applications in medicine; communicated with vendors and performed market research that reduced capital expenses.

Implemented an electronic method to improve the financial and product management distribution system of the laboratory.

Further developed negotiation, management and coordination skills. Resolved any discrepancies and issues with regard to the purchase of supplies and products in a timely manner.

Graduate Research Assistant at The Ohio State University
  • United States
  • September 2002 to December 2006

Developed and led challenging, prototypal as well as proprietary scientific research plans. Put maximum effort and received great recognition in the scientific community.
Identified opportunities for scientific research. Reactive and very proactive to challenges for new research topics, being in the front line of the latest progress in research.
Executed research projects that were stretching to diametrically different directions of the same scientific field.
Gathered and analyzed scientific findings to promote research and a fast resolution of the problems in question. Processed and quickly comprehended large amounts of scientific data and distilled information into key points allowing for reasonable conclusions and quick decisions as to the next step.
Built and used complex theoretical models for data analysis incorporating high level numeracy.
Performed extensive statistical analysis of scientific data.
Developed efficient strategies to tackle scientific problems using effective practical approaches and a lateral thinking. Was in continuous search to find an edge with a positive impact, which other researchers may have missed.
Trained, motivated and supervised co-workers. Played an advising role for junior members of the research group.
Effectively managed and prioritized multiple responsibilities.
Managed scientific and financial resources to maximize scientific progress.
Presented oral detailed progress reports in weekly research group meetings, and effectively communicated scientific problems.
Contributed my ideas and shared my expertise and knowledge to resolve scientific problems of other group members.
Participated and presented major scientific findings in fourteen international scientific conferences.
Was the primary author of six articles which were published in peer-reviewed international scientific journals.
Contributed significantly to the organization of international scientific symposia.

Graduate teaching Assistant at The Ohio State University
  • United States
  • September 2000 to August 2002

Was appointed graduate-teaching-associate tasks of different disciplines and in a rotating cycle. Worked on new projects looking at different issues each time and got a complete insight of the whole spectrum of academic work, receiving more complex tasks and more responsibility over time for outstanding work. Received excellent students' and professors’ evaluations.
Developed and delivered course material to advanced undergraduate and graduate students who were also mentored and evaluated in order to reach their highest quality standards and potential.
Coordinated students on a one-on-one basis identifying both skills and shortcomings. Tailored attitude and training to the individual's needs. Developed ways to help students exceed their expectations. Leveraged skills across the students and had the ones with the stronger skills help the students with the weaker skills.
