Senior Network Engineer at International Game Technology
  • United Kingdom - Birmingham
  • My current job since January 2010

Reduced the operating costs of EGM “Electronic Gaming Machines” by 20%, reduction in costs are achieved by eradicating, consolidating and migrating existing network infrastructure across several sites to cloud based service offering from few geographically dispersed data centres.

A further reduction in costs are achieved by using squeezing / compressing WAN bandwidth by utilizing a combination of Riverbed and open source technologies which in return increases the capacity of existing bearer up to 30x, thus eliminating the need to upgrade costly bandwidth. IGT has witnessed 300 Mbps through over a 30 Mbps bearer.

Conceptually envisioned, designed, implemented and now successfully operating inter-continental core network consisting Cisco Nexsus, ASR9K, ASR 1000, Cisco Metro 3600, 6500, 3750, Juniper, Riverbed, Checkpoint, Sonicwall and open source unix / linux based technologies.

My role at IGT involves.

• Architect and design network solutions.
• Envision, design, plan, implement and execute network infrastructures.
• Participate in ITIL framework for incident, change and release management.
• Define and enforce best network policies across the business to secure the network.
• Create LLD and HLD network solution consisting, BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS, Pseudowire L2 virtual circuits, VPLS, IPVPN4, ipVPN6 and IP anycast.
• Design, build and operate international low latency Multicast network spanning across the globe.
• Being a Technical Design Authority responsible for all aspects of core network consisting of OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VRFs, Multicast and Traffic Engineering MPLS TE.
• Design, Implement and operate network security solutions using Checkpoint, Juniper SSG, Sonicwall and open source technologies.
• Bandwidth optimization by using various algorithms, open source and Riverbed technologies.
• Load balancing application network traffic from Layer 2 - Layer 7 of the OSI model using foundry, F5 LTM, BigIP and Cisco network load balance technologies.
• Network routing policies and metric fine tuning for fully redundant and optimized network by using eIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS and Multicast networks.
• Traffic Engineering and route manipulation by using Pbr, ACL, Filtering, MED, Local Preference, Weights, Communities, scripts and various other metrics.
• Design, planning and implementation of VPN solutions consisting DM-VPN, Static VPN, SSL VPN, GRE tunnels and security phase-1 and phase-2 encryption.
• Network Disaster Recovery and over subscription planning and implementation.
• Network load balancing, load sharing, equal and unequal paths, GLBP, HSRP, VRRP, Stateful Network Load Balancing.
• Proactive and automated network operations monitoring, alerting. I have used Nagios, Cacti, Netflow, Orion SolarWind, Mrtg, Prtg, Looking Glass, Bash, Perl scripting and RANCID.
