The traineeship was structured in such a way as to equip the trainee with in-depth knowledge of the plant’s subsections i.e. Milling Section, Gravity Section, Carbon in Pulp Section, Elution Section, Gold Winning and Smelting Section and the Metallurgical Laboratory. During attachment to each section duties performed and experience gained include:
•Process route appreciation
•Operating 2 (16 ft x24ft) sagmills
•Abiding to set operational plant procedures.
•Addition of adequate reagents to optimize gold recovery (steel balls and lime).
•Making sure that shift tonnage targets are being acquired
•Ensuring that the proper size is being done on the crushing and milling section.
•Ore receiving and crushing.
•Crusher gap measurements and adjustments
•Maintaining correct mill discharge densities for efficient hydro cyclone classification.
•Balancing ore to water ratio to effect proper grinding efficiency
•Carry out mill and grate relining
•Carry out all volumetric titrations properly - free cyanide determination.
•Complying with relevant mining and safety regulations i.e.
