As a staff nurse in MICU, I was responsible for the nursing management of 2 patients at a time. Most of the patients were admitted with respiratory failure, COPD, GI bleeding, sepsis, bronchitis, asthma, CVA, food poisoning, drug overdose, pneumonia.
The specialized skills that I perform include
• Physical assessment of the patient
• Monitoring vital signs
• Intake and output monitoring
• Introduction of IV cannula
• Administering drugs through various routes
• Blood transfusion
• Major and minor dressing
• Urinary catheterization
• Suture removal
• Insertion of nasogastric tube and gastric lavage
• Bladder wash and bladder irrigation
• Eye irrigation
• Colostomy care
• Nebulization
• Care of the patient with ICD
• Pre operative preparation for the surgery patients
• Use of glucometer, insulin administration and monitoring
• Assisting in ICD insertion, venous cut down, incision and drainage, plural tapping, paracentesis, endoscopy
• Collection of lab specimens, interpreting and reporting results and treating appropriately
• Basic assessment of the patient
• Monitoring vital signs
• Cardiac monitoring
• ECG monitoring
• Intake and Output monitoring
• Administration of drugs
• Insertion of IV cannula
• Experienced in using tritratable drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, epinephrine, and lidocaine.
• Operation of defibrillator
• Nebulization
• Oxygen administration
• Use of IV syringe pumps and infusion pumps
• Setting of ventilators, care of patient in ventilator
• Weaning of mechanical ventilation
• Collection of specimen for investigation
• Urinary catheterization and bladder irrigation.
• Nasogastric intubations, feeding and stomach wash.
• Use of glucometer, insulin administration, and monitoring
• Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
• Assisting in endotracheal intubations
• Assessment of the patient on blood transfusion
