This CIOB accredited degree has provided, built upon and developed advanced knowledge within the built environment, covering the following; engineering, management, quantity surveying, procurement as well as other disciplines. Recently graduated and achieved a 2.1. Modules relevant to quantity surveying, contract management and contract administration are as follows; •Contract administration: Control and finance - The study of construction contracts and how they are applied in practise, a huge emphasis on the JCT contract due to the linguistic complexity in comparison to the NEC contract. An interesting module which incorporated contractual law with contract administration as well as the following; subcontract payments, report writing, valuations, variations, final accounts amongst other aspects. •Measurement and cost - An introduction into measurement and cost. It developed an understanding of measurement principles in theory delivered through lectures. The modules also emphasised practical work i.e. valuation of works, taking of list, measuring from drawings, cost planning etc. in a practical setting, which were delivered through seminars. •Numerical and professional skills - This module sought to further develop numerical skills to a level which is used and needed in the industry whilst teaching professional skills. •Corporate management: accounting/finance - This module delved into the corporate, social and financial responsibilities and how they are managed, ranging from accounting, to management principles. A huge emphasis on the practical side through seminars whereby students had to analyse financial and corporate accounts. •Engineering and surveying - Although this module did not teach any QS techniques it introduced basic principles and purposes in engineering and surveying, delivered both in theory and practise - using high levels of maths. •Contractual law - Two modules in both the first and second years, which placed a huge emphasis on contractual law whilst incorporating other aspects such as the general legal system, tort law, dispute resolution etc.
