Jasmine Malla

I work on coordination of funds to projects (civil society) within the framework of the Colombian Peace Process and Peace Agreement. My main focuses are gender issues and knowledge management, where I work with experts in both areas. Within gender, I am working on the Gender Marker where we evaluate what level the projects' work on gender is, also creating a new tool to set the Gender Marker for each project in a more transparent manner. I work with collecting, analyzing and compiling data and information, as well as writing trimestral reports and the annual report. My work within knowledge management consists of collecting information on the work and results of projects and find best practices and evaluate lessons learned. I am also responsible for the Colombian PDET-instrument within the team. The PDET-instrument focuses on the regions in Colombia that were hit hardest by the armed conflict and need more support for different projects such as building infrastructure or supporting education and schools. As part of my work, I also conduct missions to the local projects to learn more about work done at grassroots level as well as collect information on results and best practices.

I worked in the Central Team of the Country Office with issues relating to women's empowerment, gender equality and mainstreaming. This includes drafting and revising reports and project documents to make sure that they are implemented with a gender perspective and that it is a cross cutting theme in all work done in the office. My other responsibilities included giving compulsory gender trainings for new staff in the office, capacity building sessions on gender, working with the Gender Equality Marker assessing what gender level the work of projects is on, and liaising with other UN organisations in Jordan and local partners and civil society organisations. I also supported other staff and functions such as monitoring and evaluation, results reporting and business development. This included work on monitoring and evaluation of programmes (Results Oriented Annual Report), collecting and analyzing data, as well as the Country Programme Document of UNDP Jordan. In addition, I formed part of the "Network of Local Governments"-programme which aims to contribute to the decentralisation process in Jordan and to support and empower local institutions and civic engagement.

The Ulkopolitist is a Finnish online publication that focuses on international affairs and Finnish foreign and security policy. I was part of the Middle East and North Africa-team where my main task was to analyse the political situation in Lebanon. I wrote an analysis on the political aftermath of the explosion that took place in Beirut August 4 2020. I wrote my second analysis on the effects of the Black Lives Matter-movement in Lebanon and how it related to the kafala-system and the systematic mistreatment of domestic workers that is in place in the country. I also worked as an editor, editing and publishing my colleagues texts relating to the region, including political situations in Sudan, Morocco and Iran.

worked at the Unit for Planning and International Social Security with issues relating to the Finnish social security system for people in international situations. My main tasks included researching, writing reports, gathering information and data, assisting in daily tasks, answering questions and requests from citizens and organizing events. I got to learn how the Finnish government works to make sure that all people in Finland have the right to a decent standard of living and the right to health. I also got to see the difficulties that the Finnish security system will face in the future, especially regarding an aging Finnish population.

I worked as a news reporter in the newsroom of the Finnish speaking minority in Sweden. My main tasks were following political events (I followed the Swedish elections that took place at the time as well as the period during which the government was formed), writing news articles, interviewing, audio editing and broadcasting news live. My focus was on news that somehow affected the rights of the Finnish speaking minority in Finland.

Main responsibilities included advocating for youth participation and youth rights in Finland as well as internationally, especially within the educational sector. During my mandate I also served as the Finnish UNESCO Youth Delegate in 2017. I focused in particular on the agenda on education of UNESCO. During my time in this position I attended the General Conference in Paris 2017 participating in the sessions on education, as well as giving the intervention in the general session on behalf of the Finnish delegation. My work in the National Youth Council included participation in both national and international meetings and conferences, advocacy on a national and international level, monitoring EU youth policies, drafting youth policy documents and strategies, and planning strategies and campaigns.

My main tasks included political and economic reporting. During my time at the Embassy, I followed closely the women's movement that was at its height in Spain at that time. I wrote reports on the women's march organized in March 2018 and on issues regarding Spanish legislation and women (especially at the time the focus was on laws on rape). I also followed closely the situation in Catalonia and the Basque Country as well as the situation regarding migrants (Ceuta and Melilla) and the development of Brexit (considering Gibraltar). I also did economic reporting, assisted with daily consular tasks and I attended international formal meetings (including EU-briefings).
