I worked in Merchant Marine as 3rd. Mate; also as Chief Mate (authorized); later I was hired by ENAP (Oil National Company) since 1974 to 1988. Then I worked in Fishery Companies. In 1998 I was hired again by ENAP till 2011.
After that I am sailing as 2º Mate in tugs here in Punta Arenas, and as Captain in supply vessels in the salmon fishery companies.

Captain of a Derrik- Pipelay Barge. With 10 point mooring with 10 tons delta anchors; 500 tons., lift capacity crane, 120 tons capacity crawler crane on deck; 120 crew members. Atention of crew changes by helicopter twice a week. Management of AHTS (6000 class), for pipeline jobs.
Work in a Crane - Pipelay Barge, (120 crew members) of 500 tons lift capacity; Pipelines jobs and running anchors position with 2 AHTS (4000 class). On charge of Ballast system for jackets installation. O.I.M. with 4 AHTS (4000 class), 1 supply vessel, 2 jack-up drill rigs (North American); 1 Modular rig (Chilean), and 10 production platforms. Attention of the crew changes with helicopter services twice a week. Trainning the barge crew in diferent drills on board, acording of IMO regulations.
Set the barge ready to work on site, by anchors (10), support by AHTS vessels of 6000 class. Laying the submarine pipelines, risers, and submarine conections by diving system.On charge of the safety of all personal on board (105 people); preparing the diferent drills at sea, fire fighting, abandon ship drills, man overboard, prepare the helicopter atention and the safety for the people flyng in crew changes (50 each); comunications with support vessels and maritime authority.Instructions to the personal atending the pump-room for ballast and deballast during the lift of the jackets and his instalation.
Feb 1998 - Dec 2010: Barge foreman on Crane- Pipeline barges (Yagana, Simpayo and Manantiales) lying pipelines and set jackets in South Atlantic sea. - ENAP (National Oil Company), Chile
On charge of all the marine operations on board, pipelines and set the production platforms on the sea.Load and offload all the logistic materials for the diferent projects on the supply vessels, and be always connected with the AHTS for any anchor move.Watch the safety at sea of all the crew members, (105 in total) and prepare them in different drills according of IMO regulations, (fire fighting squad, abandon ship, man overboard etc); in charge of all radio comunications system (GMDSS), the right helicopter atenttion for the crew changes, and receive logistic items in it.During heavy lift job, have to manage the ballast control operation. Watching all the time the right levels off diesel and potable water on board. Keeping the EHSQ requirements on all personnel on board, also his accommodation cabins (for make the liferaft list, every day, by computer program).Trainning the crew for the rescue operations whith rescue boat, (out board motor), and the spills actions in case of. Prepare the anchor pattern for different locations with submarine pipelines sited there.
On charge of mooring system of de barge, (Derrick-Pipelay-Barge)with 10 point mooring anchors Delta Flipper of 10 tons. each.Giving the positions to the tugs; running anchors during pipelines projets. On charge of the ballast system during lift and install the production plattforms.Chek all the comunication and safety of people when they have crew-change by helicopters; also to take in contact with the stand-by vessel. On charge of de safety of the crew doing all the drills according of IMO regulations, (fire-fighting / abandon ship / man over board / pollution control spills). Imform to all vessel around when we have diving operations, and transmit the situation at the port autorithy, writting the dayly Log-Master on the bridge. Supervise the anchor operators during the different movements, close the plattforms or during pipeline jobs.

As Third Mate was on charge of Fire- Fighting and Safety department, doing the maintenance of fire extinguishers, CO2 fixed equipment, life-boats and prepares the different drills by orders of the Master.During the navigation I had to do my watch keeping duty´s in the bridge, inside the Patagonian channels and Atlantic sea voyages to Argentina and Brazil coast.
