ACCA is one of the largest global accountancy body and has over 158, 000 members worldwide. ACCA Pakistan is the third largest market of ACCA globally.

My role at ACCA Pakistan is to lead the Finance function at ACCA Pakistan, Dubai and Oman and provide Secretarial support to ACCA Pakistan, which is a registered Company, under section 42 of the Company’s Ordinance.

Responsibilities and Accomplishments
• Reporting to and partnering with the CEO, set the financial operations and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy.
• Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
• Have been given the responsibility for overall management and delivery of the commercial business plan
• In conjunction with the head office, draft, monitor and assess the business and development plan
• Assess options for co-ordinating the activities, procedures and systems so as to promote common policies and practices
• Advise the head office on financing, managerial, staffing and service delivery issues and advise on the proper allocation of resources
• Report to the head office on progress against agreed objectives and researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and make reports as necessary, ensuring compliance with any guidelines laid down by the head office
• Identify development opportunities consistent with the aims of the organisation and the operating environment
• Maintain an awareness of organizational and technological developments for the operations to make best possible use of the resources available
• Prepare and review detailed budgets for approval by head office with coordination of the three offices of Pakistan
• Make regular reports to the head office on income, expenditure and any variations from budgets
• Re-forecasting on a quarterly basis to manage the impact of changes due to external and internal factors
• Maintain day-to-day financial control within budget heads agreed by the head office
• Ensure that all finances are properly administered and monitored
• Ensure that appropriate financial regulations and controls are in place and in use at all times
• Ensure that all financial reporting obligations are met and producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
• Providing and interpreting financial information to Regional and as well as Head Office
• Monitoring and interpreting cash flows and predicting future trends
• Developing financial management mechanisms that minimise financial risk
• provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and expense analysis
• Developing external relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g. Auditors, Solicitors, Bankers and Statutory Organisations such as FBR, SECP, PCP and other corporate service providers
• Oversee purchasing, payroll, tax, exchange rates and audits (internal and external)
• Lead finance, human resources (HR), and information technology (IT) staff.
• Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., opening new operations, asset acquisition etc.).
• Manage the company’s insurance program
• Manage the company’s real estate affairs consisting of leases and sub-leases with various landlords; Negotiate new leases or lease renewals
• A part of the provident fund board of trustees, complete management of company’s provident fund( including investment management

Lahore Stock Exchange is the second largest and first automated stock exchange of Pakistan. LSE voluntarily adopted the Code of Corporate Governance in November 2007 through a Board resolution and established an Internal Audit Function.

Responsibilities and Accomplishments
• Setup a new Internal Audit Department from scratch and hired a team of professionals
• Introduced a formal fraud response plan and fraud policy linked to the Whistle blowing policy & Code of Conduct
• Introduced a proactive approach to carrying out risk assessment of areas where internal control systems may not be able to prevent or detect fraud
• As a part of the above, monitored the processes on a continuous basis to identify contravention and over-riding of controls to minimize risks of tax violation, embezzlement and insider dealing
• Worked in collaboration with the IT department to improve the security framework of information systems
• For the procurement and payroll functions, identified weaknesses in resources, structures, skills and practices which impacted on the achievement of Best Value and found a potential for significant cost savings through better performance
• For all functions, identified the business processes/cycles, sub cycles and processes for theses sub cycles
• Compared current practices with best practices and identified the gaps/risks and recommended management, the controls for these gaps/risks
• Implemented the Code of Corporate Governance in its true spirit
• Became a part of company’s risk management process
• Attended Arbitrations as Subject Matter Expert on as and when required
• Assisted in the Corporate Social Responsibility agenda for the organization

As a Secretary of Board Audit Committee, my responsibilities were:
• Organised BAC meetings.
• Briefing BAC on significant matters.
• Reporting performance of the Audit Department.
• Taking Minutes of the BAC meetings and circularising them in the prescribed time limits

Project
Due to the change in accounting methods by FRS 26 (from coupon based to effective yield basis), we were in the process of implementing the fully automated system (InvestOne Enterprise by SunGard) to calculate effective yield.
Responsibilities and Accomplishments

• Evaluated two situations, before and after the completion of Project
• Prepared the Operational Budget, got it approved from the project board and executed the activities as per the budget
• During the period of financial crunch in the European markets, identified and saved 20% of the costs through rationalization of procedures
• Managed the team of around 20 - 25 people, utilizing their maximum potential
• Devised/established controls for the different stages of the project
• Ensued timely reporting to the project board
• Ensured timely completion of the project
• Handed over the project to the Business upon successful completion
