Responsible for operation and maintenance of conservation works and irrigation schemes in both Matebeleland North and South Provinces of Zimbabwe.

Duties and responsibilities included budget preparation for the Department, expenditure control, monitoring and safety of dams and related sructural works, preparation of reports for the same, recommendations on requisite repairs i.e. repair of spillways, rehabilitation of embankments, repair of appurtenant works, etc.
Works entailed working in close liaison with the Ministry's Dam Safety Consultants, Coyn et Bellier of France, surveys and preparation of reports for the same.
Management and monitoring of water usage from all Government dams in Matebeleland North and South Provinces.
Major consumers were Local Authority councils like Bulawayo City Council, Filabusi, Gwanda, West Nicholson, Mzingwane, Victoria Falls and BeitBridge towns.

Major dams monitored were Insiza (capacity 164million m3); Antelope (capacity 105million m3); Umguza (capacity 55million m3); Fort Rixon (capacity 97million m3); (Tiyabenzi capacity million 97m3); BeitBridge off- Rivver Storage Dam (capacity million 97m3); Umhlanga (capacity 55million m3)
Subordinate senior staff were fifteen (15No.) and Junior staff compliment were more than hundred and fifty (150No.)

Subordinate staff comprised Water Bailiffs, Office Clerks, Field Data Clerks, carpenters, builders, painters and other skilled maintenance personnel.

Contract labourers were engaged from time to time to compliment existing staff for major labour intensive works.
Annual recurrent budget expenditure averaged US$ 100 000
Capital expenditure varied depending on works.

• construction of a 12km concrete lined canal of capacity 1, 09m3/sec;
• construction of concrete outlet works from an existing dam
• construction of an earth-fill dam 25m high
• construction of pump houses, overchutes, box-culverts, etc.
• construction of a ten (10km) access road, bridges, cattle grids, etc.
• clearing and leveling 10 00Ha of medium/dense forest for crop farming

Duties and responsibilities were: - coordinating and checking all preparatory works prior to civil works commencement.
- check and verify all works intended/implemented were to Contract specification
- Verifying works setting -out and authorising same to be implemented.
- Measurement of quantities for payment of interim certificate payment i.e. concrete work, brickwork, earthworks, haulage, etc..

Project: Fatima Mission Water Supply
Works comprised:-
• 500m3 reinforced concrete reservoir
• pump house
• survey and selection of pumping and reticulation mains route
• installation of 4 000m of 100mm ∅ class 18 AC pumping main and 3 000m of 75mm∅ class 6 AC reticulation mains.
My duties were:-
- preparation of working drawings for the Construction unit, Mechanical workshops for fabrication of special fittings and for the Electrical Contractor.
