• Devising appropriate training policies, programs and schedules based on the knowledge of key training requirements and the department's computing systems and changes in software programs, operating systems, databases and support services

* Assists in determining the need for computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment in the University and advises in making major hardware and software acquisitions, and in establishing IT policies for the University.
DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
* Assists User Support Manager in the overall direction, co-ordination and evaluation of personnel involved in providing computer systems support services to academic and support departments.
SERVICE AND ADVICE
* Confers with computer systems users, departments, faculties, Library and Administration staff and project managers to obtain information on IT equipment performance needs, on limitations and capabilities of existing IT systems and operations and capabilities required for projected workloads.
Plans and recommends types of computers and peripheral equipment such as scanners, readers, plotters, networking devices and related input and output devices; or modifications to existing equipment to provide the capability for proposed projects or work load, efficient operation and effective use of IT equipment.
Consults with software and hardware vendors and other members of staff in the department to solve problems impeding expected IT systems performance levels.
* Installs, modifies and maintains computer hardware and software systems and provides technical assistance to ensure optimal use of information technology systems.
* Resolves network and server problems to ensure continuity of operation of faculty and departmental computer systems.
* Implements and co-ordinates adherence to IT equipment operational standards and related University policies.
* Monitors activities of technical staff involved in diagnosing, repairing and installing user equipment in the faculty and departments.
* Liaises with users, faculty and department heads to determine needs for support and, IT and automation services.
* Participate in developing plans/proposals for improve Information Technology applications, end user computing, security, package software selection for various client;
