As an experienced EVS operator, I have had the opportunity to work in some foreign locations, including the middle east. Contacts with colleagues and teams working in this area of the globe led to a job offer in Qatar at Al Dawri & Al Kass Sport Channels. I have accepted it and I have the good fortune of being often requested to work as an Avid editor as it is a key part of my professional CV.
I am proud to be part of the team that produces some of the highest standard content in live sports broadcast, not only in the middle east but also in the world.
The company, Valentim de Carvalho rented my services to other companies from time to time as a videotape operator in live sports production. The first equipment of choice were analogue betacams but the EVS systems were gradually implemented as the main tool to slow motion.
I have operated some of the early systems and later, as a freelancer, I have continued doing it over the years keeping up with all the machine developments.
EVS activity was extended to other areas of broadcast, such as entertainment shows, where my services were often requested.
I was able to build a good professional name as an EVS operator and it is a very important part of my CV.
By the time I left Sonotech, I had a good reputation as an Avid editor and I found my own way as a freelancer.
I was often hired not only for the good editing skills, but also for the ability of easily finding a way around technical problems in the systems.
During this period, I have worked, at some point, directly with all the main TV Channels in Portugal, and edited thousands of hours of video in other production companies.
I have edited all sorts of content: Entertainment Shows, Sports, Reality shows, Music videos, Advertising, News, Corporate videos and TV Drama.
From 2008 to 2010 I spent most of my working time at SIC (Sociedade Independente de Comunicação) where I edited mostly 3 weekly shows.
I am proud that they are, until today, audience leaders and multiple award winners.
As a Freelancer, I often felt the need of having my own space and equipment.
During this period I invested with a partner in a small editing studio where we could offer our clients a good service on a budget.
It was never planned to be big, but in 2008, we surprised the market when we took under our wing (hired by SIC) the post of a series about the National football team key players.
The Iconic episode about Cristiano Ronaldo ended up as the most internationally awarded tv show in Portugal of all time, gathering awards in western and eastern Europe as well as in Asia.
The company kept a discrete profile after that, going back to its post niche mostly dedicated to corporate video.
I was offered a place at Sonotech, first as a videotape operator, and then, when they equipped their studios with Avid Systems, I moved to the editing department.
I have collaborated in the editing of entertainment shows, reality shows, music videos and drama series during that period.
Started as a Videotape operator and later moved to editing on the first Avid Media Composer system that the company had acquired by that time.
I was also proficient in setting up studio configurations for the live and recorded shows the company produced by that time.
I experienced working in analogue and digital studios. That contributed to a good background in several broadcast areas.
