Ensuring compliance with HSE regulations by understanding existing laws and rules, interpreting standards, enforcing adherence and advising management on needed actions. Managers, supervisors and employees on expected roles, responsibilities and protocols.
Proactively identifying risk exposures and potential hazards at divisions and work sites and making recommendations to managers and supervisors. Developing action plans to eliminate and/or reduce risk exposure.
Advising and assisting managers and supervisors in promoting a safe work environment.
Recommending procurement, use and installation of safety or hazard control equipment, and updates of policies and procedures as necessary.
Monitoring safety and first aid equipment and supplies, such as AEDs, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, to ensure they are functional and ready for use when needed.
Developing and implementing programs such as, but not limited to, incident awareness, asbestos exposure, respiratory protection, chemical inventory/control, hazardous communications/SDS, ergonomics and others.
Working with respective division staff to coordinate, develop, implement and monitor safety and environmental programs for all divisions and work sites.
Serving as primary investigator for property damage, accident, near miss and on-the-job injury investigations.
Coordinating with consultants for training as needed. Evaluating training methods and programs for effectiveness in increasing employee safety awareness and performance.
Ensuring all employees receive required safety training and maintaining the employees’ history of required training on the Training Database and other regulatory reporting systems related to safety training.
Providing new employee safety orientation to all new employees, including an overview of safety programs and policies.
Providing support to the HSE Senior Specialist as required, to ensure continuing support to the business
Owning and administering Incident Management and Investigations across a diverse risk area, with a view to positively influence safety culture and behavior across the business.
Assisting with the implementation of UDC HSE Standards and Minimum Requirements
Assisting in providing HSE training/development for People Managers and Engagement leads
Monitoring and reporting progress against HSE targets and performance indicators for UDC
Working across an agile team and develop an understanding of the various lines of business and key operational periods, provide flexibility and manage HSE accordingly
Providing support to the business on the development, implementation and integration of HSE objectives
Work with peers in other lines of business to ensure consistent messaging and application of HSWE standards
Ability to work within the overall strategic direction of the business with minimal supervision
Assisting in the implementation of the overall communications strategy for the HSE teams and the business to create engagement and commitment, and achieve desired HSE outcomes
Assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of HSE strategy and programs which will improve and build on a positive HSE culture.
Demonstrating a high level of HSE awareness and leadership.
Providing advice to the Main contractor on health, Safety and environmental issues.
Monitoring statutory compliance by carrying out regular inspections and auditing the main contractor’s works.
Assisting the Main contractor’s in undertaking risk assessments and identifying safe systems of work.
Monitoring the emergency plan.
Monitoring and reporting compliance with the project HSE Plan.
Monitoring all personnel visiting or working on the facilities and project to assess completion of HSE inductions and other HSE training for the tasks/activities they are expected to perform.
Reporting internally and externally as required in consultation with the superiors, HSE incidents, including near-miss events and injuries.
Actively promote hazard identification, reporting and elimination or control by all facilities and project personnel.
Monitoring and reviewing the HSE performance of the facilities and project HSE team and taking appropriate action to correct poor performance.
Ensure security arrangement for the facilities and project are in place.
Ensuring that Maintenance team are made aware of the PTW requirement.
