Learning Empowerment for the Advancement of Palestinians
Total years of experience :0 years, 3 Months
I was given the opportunity to spend a month and a half of my summer in Lebanon, where I taught children. The highlight was that these children were not normal students but struggling Palestinian refugees who have barely any access to forms of education. They have a state-wide exam that they prepare hard for to enter high school, and my volunteering experience dealt with improving their English. Aside teaching English, I also taught creative writing so students can learn to delve into the literary aspects of English and improve their writing skills. Furthermore, the volunteering experience incorporated community projects that extended education outside the classroom. One of the most enjoyable ones was cleaning up the refugee camps and painting the walls of neighborhood buildings. Education was vital in these projects due to reasons such as hygiene and cleanliness. We also participated in dental hygiene projects so both students could learn the importance of dental care.
