Manages all activities of the engineering department. Directs department activities, through subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs and market demand to plan projects. Confers with management, production and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products. Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of capital and operating budgets.
Project Management activities including project scoping, estimation, planning, risk management, finalization of technical / functional specifications, resource administration and quality management of the product.
Reviewing, progressing & identifying new practices, techniques & materials for completing all maintenance activities.
Monitoring and controlling costs in all areas of operation of maintenance department.
Developing cross-functional skills within group personnel of maintenance department employees.
Ensuring that the learning from past maintenance projects are internalized in the form of guidelines/checklists for planning and execution.
as the Head of the Maintenance Department which is supporting the Production Department day today activities for 5 years. The Maintenance Department provides a variety of services to Al Watania Poultry properties ranging from generation of power 132MW, HT/LT power distribution inside the projects around 252 Sq Km area, Maintenance of Feed Mill, manure plant machineries, Maintenance of Telecommunication systems, Up keep of all the farms and company properties, water supply distribution system, standardization of all installation, upkeep maintenance of 1762 various type of fleet of company vehicles, Packing machineries and day to day maintenance activities of all company properties and plants and etc. A small bio gas unit 250 KW, we installed and commissioned in my earlier company. We are also in the process of producing electricity from the manure which is under study. I was also responsible for the construction activities of the farm. During my stay we had undertaken various construction work such as new poultry houses, hatchery and expansion of processing plant .
The department where I was Incharge consists with various sections namely, Power Generation, Broiler Maintenance, Parent Maintenance, Layer Maintenance, Housing Maintenance, Vehicle Workshop, Fabrication, Machine Shop, Foundry, Radiator, Electrical, Electronic & Telecommunication, Rewinding, Job order and Office Administration. The major segments of the department that report directly to the department head are called Sections. The experienced Engineers, licensed electricians, plumbers, technicians, expert skilled carpenters, experienced painters, heating and cooling specialists and rewinding technicians, are the main strength of the Maintenance Department. The total strength of manpower as on today is 462 with 8 Engineers.
Headed the Engineering Department & Workshop and successfully handled the following services to the tea & coffee estates / factories, departments of Tata Tea including:
o Mechanical, electrical, automobile (432 types of different vehicles) and civil maintenance.
o Electricity distribution to the licensed 250 square km area, including electricity billing, providing electricity connection, maintenance of distribution system and uninterrupted power supply.
o Maintenance of various rated generators including mini hydel generators.
o Adherence of the statutory requirement of regulatory commissions, electricity board, etc. and water distribution to Munnar town and telecommunication linked to BSNL.
o Guarding company properties in Munnar Town from encroachment.
Negotiated and finalized annual rate contracts for key items, like cement and steel based on the price trends and other inputs from Head of Procurement.
Effectively provided:
o Regional Engineering Co-ordinators with specialist inputs/technical assistance.
o All technical inputs required from assessment of land opportunity to handover of site to Estate Manager/Sales.
o Preventive and emergency maintenance services for all equipment (like H T Electrical equipment, air-conditioning units and generators) and ensured business continuity.
Spearheaded the maintenance management function for 24 tea factories and packaging centres.
Designed and executed the electrical requirements for projects, ensuring cost & energy efficiency.
Reassembled imported Electronic sorting machines used in color and size sorting of cardamom and coffee.
Commissioned the electrical fixtures of a Bio-tech Plant at Cochin Export Processing Unit, Kakkanad.
