 Makes patient round and sees to it that all patient in the ward get the necessary care.
 Sees that all equipments are in order and properly kept and supplies are available.
 Makes weekly schedules and daily assignment of staff.
 Checks and countersigns recording done by the staff nurses.
 Sees to it that doctor’s orders are carried out properly intelligently by the staff.
 Plans and supervises all nursing activities in the ward.
 Evaluates performance of staff every six months.
 Coordinate ward activities in the administration of nursing service with all the other hospital services.
 Directs and supervises the activities of non-professional worker in the ward.
 Participates in the orientation of new staff and trainees.
 Interprets hospital philosophy, objectives and polices of the staff, patients and their families.
 Represent the ward in the nursing service meeting and other hospital meetings when necessary.
 Acts as supervising nurse when so delegated.
 Renders direct nursing care if the unit is understaffed.
 Supervises orderliness and cleanliness of the ward.
 Provides/maintains adequate facilities, equipment and supplies necessary for good patient care in the unit.
 Provides an environment that is conducive to the physical, spiritual and emotional well-being of patients and personnel.
 Participates in formulating/interpreting/implementing philosophy, objective and polices of the nursing services.
 Establishes, promotes and maintain good interpersonal relationship.
 Identifies nursing problem in the ward.
 Acts as a liaison between patient and members of the health team.
