I have been working as cabin crew for British Airways since last year and really enjoy my role as crew. My number one responsibility onboard any aircraft is the safety of the passengers and fellow crew members. During the training process I learnt that the job itself is alot more than people tend to think. I am trained to deal with all situations onboard, including fires, medicals and emergency evacuations. Following safety the second responsibility within the role is to ensure that each and every customer has a flight to remember, making them want to fly with British Airways everytime. I have the responsibility of passenger welfare, including wheelchair passengers, infants and unaccompanied minors. I always ensure that safety is my number one priority and report anything that seems abnormal. Each flight, I believe that I give first class service to all passengers throughout all cabins. I have so far worked in economy, premium economy and business class, where although the services differ, the passengers are equally important. It is the responsibilty of crew looking after certain cabins, to introduce themselves to British Airways Executive Card holders, who fly with us regularly. I believe that my friendly, professional and approachable nature help me deal with difficult situations I may face and service recovery where needed. Hygiene and food knowledge are also very important to the role, when serving food and drink to customers. I work for Mixed Fleet which means I operate both shorthaul and longhaul flights, liscensed to fly on 3 different aircrafts. On all longhaul flights we offer duty free to passengers, I manage and am responsible for money and stock. I also check onboard catering before take off if I take the role as galley lead and often fill out the onboard defects form to inform and hand over to the engineer at the end of the flight.
I was a retail shop assisstant in Wallis (Arcadia Group) and really enjoyed the customer facing role, and meeting new people everyday. My responsibilities within the store were greeting customers and helping them with anything they needed. Early shifts consisted of counting, hanging and placing new stock throughout the store, dealing with deliveries 3 times a week. Every 6 months I was also involved in the store's stock loss audit. Other roles included working on the tills, manning the front of store and manning the fitting rooms. I would often cash up at the end of a working day with a colleague, or open up at the start of a working day. Keeping the shop floor tidy, professional and shopable was a must throughout everyday.
Whilst working at Finnegans I carried out general waitressing roles. I served food and drinks, cleaned and helped out in the kitchen when needed. I took orders, relayed them to the chef and made sure all customers were happy. Working at Finnegans was when I really understood the importance of teamwork & communication to keep everything running smoothly. I also enhanced my peoples skills and learnt how to deal with difficult situations, both individually and in a team.
