Providing the technical expertise to determine the Marine Department’s vessel refit schedule, develop the necessary repair specifications, and oversee the accomplishment of those repairs, as well as provide engineering guidance and technical support to the Maintenance and Operating Divisions in maintaining the Saudi Aramco fleet to the highest Marine Industry standards.

Compiling work scopes for scheduled refits of all Saudi Aramco-owned vessels, to monitor the repairs of those vessels during the scheduled repair period, and to perform acceptance and sea trials on behalf of the Operating Superintendent on completion of those repairs.

Preparing vessel work packages for dry-docking and repairs at Contractor facilities, both In-Kingdom and Out-of-Kingdom. Additionally, Port Engineering will develop the Company Estimate for that work, and evaluate the shipyard tenders to seek the bid that is most advantageous to the Company. After a repair contract is awarded to the successful bidder, the assigned Port Engineer is

Designated as the on-site Company Representative to monitor those repairs and make decisions on behalf of the Marine Department.

Performing vessel inspections and sea trials at the request of Operating Division to identify real or potential problems that will affect the satisfactory and safe operation of the vessel.

Assisting the Operating and Maintenance Divisions in troubleshooting difficult engineering problems, and seek the specialized advice of specific manufacturers when required.

Performing the Contractor vessel inspections on behalf of the vessel's User Department prior to placing these vessels on hire.

Preparing and maintaining the Vessel Long Range Refit Schedule, using vessel needs, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements and historical knowledge to implement a plan that also satisfies desires of the Operational Division and the User Department while still maintaining Classification and Saudi Aramco standards.

Playing a key role in accident and engineering failure investigations.

Performing engineering studies at the request of other Divisions, in an effort to seek new or different ways to perform Marine tasks more effectively, more efficiently and more safely.
