TechShop is a maker space that provides members machinery that enables them to create projects using wood and metal work, 3D printers and laser cutting machines. As a TechShop assistant, responsibilities include:
• Understanding how all the machines are setup and how to use them safely and efficiently.
• Assisting members’ projects with ideas, recommendations and using the tooling machines.
• Front desk operations such as managing memberships, retail orders and class schedules.
• Instruct classes for silk screen printing and vinyl heat press on clothing or stickers.
The project is a portable environmentally friendly water purifying self-contained system commissioned within Masdar Institute in partnership with MIT. The project won first place in the Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum water award, which obtained a grant to further develop a product prototype. As a member of the team, responsibilities included; designing and testing technical components of the product, assembly, welding, fabric stitching, and overall connections of electronic components. Included within the project is technical research, sponsor outreach and market analysis.
Feelix is a start-up that creates innovative wearable technologies that communicates from digital applications to the users through a tactile platform. Tasks include:
• Product conceptualization design and prototyping for the product hardware.
• Producing presentation material for demonstrations to investors and audiences.
• Virtual reality game design to communicate with the product hardware.
• Assisted customers with queries relating to registration, billing, technical, etc.
• Attending events to advertise and promote the network with the offers provided.
• Worked with an engineer responsible for developing outlets in Dubai malls.
• Learned to review interior design and MEP drawings for clients.
Studied architecture, including studio classes where models of structures and their surroundings are built. Also, increased understanding of city structures with urban integration, historical mapping with consideration to transportation, pedestrian safety and tourism. Reviewed important global cities with successful plans and methods of commuting while comprehending how they function. Improved art skills by taking painting and welding classes.
Took architecture courses that required sketching building plans and elevations, as well as Computer Aided Design and rendering. Received education of the history of architecture which includes modern contemporary design.
