I (together with a partner) successfully developed a LAN instant messenger which included many to many conversations, file transfer options, audio and video streaming and emoticons. This software was coded using Java. The client and server was in a single program; the first user to connect to the network becomes the new server. At first the instructions were to make the next person on the list to become the new server if ever the current server disconnected which we mostly completed but then if was decided that if the server disconnects everyone gets kicked out and this was what the final version of the software included.
