Voluntary work with distinguished professor Lourdes F. Vega on molecular simulations. Was familiarized with concepts in molecular thermodynamics and the simulation tool LAMMPS. Simulated methane and ethane using Ovito for visualization.
During same time performed research on integrating new refrigerants into the cryogenic unit of an FLNG facility, final year team project. It involved:
Presented refrigerant comparison, costing and Monte Carlo sensitivity analysis (Capcost), PFD visualization (Visio), and HSE details
Simulated and helped optimize cooling cycles on Aspen Plus, HYSYS for 1-2 mtpa FLNG
for publication
Researched on cryogenic units, FLNG and LNG facilities, NRU, and potential refrigerants.
I worked in a team of 4 - The CELT Head, a secretary staff, another student assistant and myself. As a team, we tackled all issues posed to this department together. Some of my achievements and tasks are outlined below:
Helped re-establish Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) via:
Creating Manual of Operations, advertising videos and research on faculty-oriented STEM, mentoring and professional development areas
Conducting and analyzing surveys (Google Apps, Excel, Word) improving CELT workshop effectiveness
Documenting all activities (100+ reports) and helping content delivery (50+ presentations) featured on university website
Assisting in administrative tasks and providing support to faculty
Helping organize and participating in Teaching Awards 2017 ceremony
Led a team of 3 investigating refinery operations in the field, Gas, Day Jet and Octane testing labs, central Control Building, and learning center, in order to establish a thorough understanding of the roles of units and employees there, and grasp the difference between theoretical knowledge and real-life application. Successfully presented a project assigned on CDU (largest single-column), a main heat exchanger (MHEX) and Desalter units, on this basis.
Gave recommendations relating to scenario building in context of the refinery as a whole (What if Scenario based on changing crude supply and modifications to refinery).
Organized and helped manage 100+ students’ ice-breakers
Led students on off-campus camping trips in Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah
Wrote reports on camps, emails, and occasional minutes-of-meetings
Placed in charge of recruitment, training, representing club, event organization and planning
Learned kindling a fire, food, pack and safety essentials, and knot-types
Attained Honors with Distinction in the chemical engineering program at KU. Incorporated several extra-curricular activities. Selected for Summer Exchange Program: Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey to study and experience a different culture and environment. Chosen from 100 students (top 20 taken). Tasks achieved were: Building and designing a robot using Arduino board and power tools (introduction to C++). Broadening mindset by accepting and understanding western culture and society. Came 2nd in class robot competition! Some extra-curriculars: 2nd in Elsevier Engineering Academic Challenge in my university and in top 12 from around the world (2016,2017). Participant and three-time winner at regional and local Model United Nations competitions. Captain of badminton JV university team and Libero of the Volleyball team, coming 2nd in the ADISL tournament held in Abu Dhabi for volleyball and first in badminton as a university.
