My experience at ALBAL Interiors was remarkable. Albal gave me a huge opportunity to learn new project typologies along with more project responsibility. At Albal I designed a café whose Architecture revolved around the preservation of a historic “Ghaf” tree in the Ras Al Khor Complex, I worked on the refurbishment of two Yachts and design of a small speed boat bathroom, I even designed a weekend house along with stables. All the above projects were for the Al Ghandi family.
I worked at Darmesk for a short duration, due to the lack of projects in the company. However, in this short span of time I have had the privilege to work on extremely diverse projects. I worked on Airport Terminals in Africa and India. I have worked on a spa in Abu Dhabi and an extremely detailed Villa in Syria.
After moving to Dubai I had the privilege to work with one of the leading Interior Design firms for an Internship of one month. I took this opportunity as an excellent learning experience. It exposed me to a relatively new market and work environment. I helped the firm in developing office standards and also helped them in setting up mood boards for one of their huge villa projects here in Dubai.
Working at NM studio was a tremendous experience; here I grew as an Architect, an Interior Designer, as a team player and most importantly as a team leader. In this studio most of the projects were handed to a single architect putting complete responsibility of the outcome on one Architect. This truly helped me become far more vigilant and conscious of my design and my decisions, be it on the drawing board or practically at the site. This position helped me grow as a spontaneous problem solver as well as a decision maker.
I joined NM Studio as a Project Architect in March 2012 and in a span of a few months I managed to prove myself diligent enough to earn the designation of the Project Head. I headed a team of one architect and two draftsmen for a few of my projects. My job at NM studio was not only to design but also to manage the projects. I would deal with the clients and deliver their requirements with a synergy of functions and aesthetics. I managed my team for the execution of these designs into working drawings, tender drawings and BOQs. Once these projects were awarded then I looked after the site supervision along with accessories procurement and the overall Project Management till the project was handed over to the clients.
I was working as a Project Head at NM Studio for the retail outlets of two famous fashion brands in Pakistan; ‘IDEAS - by Gul Ahmed’ and ‘Sana Safinaz.’ all over major and minor cities of Pakistan. I have designed several flagship outlets for Gul Ahmed including the ones in Ocean Mall Tower Karachi, DHA Z1 Lahore, M M Alam Road Lahore along with 14 other outlets. I have designed both the flagship outlets for Sana Safinaz in Dolmen Mall Clifton Karachi and Lahore.
I also worked on an 8000 sq.yd elaborate residence in Karachi, I have also designed a cozy café -Cosmopolitan Café. I have also been the project Architect for the auditorium at IBA University, City Campus, Karachi.
I worked at Carbonated.tv an online media house based in San Francisco, USA as a sub editor. This was an enriching experience where I not only learnt things that I was completely alien to but this job ended up widening my horizon. Here I was responsible for, writing blogs, editorials, aggregation of news. Scripting, production, editing and voiceovers for short video packages and shows. Looking over the work of sub-ordinates. SEO for the website, traffic analysis and reports and social networking.
Right after graduation this was my first professional experience. And I could not have landed at a better studio than ‘The Architects’, this firm is known for its wide range of projects, from residential, to housing to institutional. And I had the opportunity of working on all the project types designed by ‘The Architects’ in their varying phases. I got an exposure to the design development phase, working drawings phase, research phase, presentation phase as well as construction phase. E.g Barkat-E-Haidry Housing for the Bohra Community, Aga Khan Housing in Karimabad, &Sohail Maskatiya Residence. I even had the opportunity of working on Welfare projects for the rehabilitation of Flood victims in Pakistan.
I proved to be a merit position holder in all five years of my academics.
