Scientist at Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC)
  • India - New Delhi
  • December 2010 to February 2024

Worked in TIFAC as a Scientist and entrusted with various responsibilities such as supervising climate change related projects, Technology Needs Assessment for climate change, initiating net-zero activities for energy intensive MSME clusters, deal with long-term foresight exercise to prepare technology vision document for the nation and technology roadmaps, executing technology innovation projects, funding and project management etc.

Contributed in preparation of India’s INDC report, accomplished and Co-Supervised projects on Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) for climate change mitigation & adaptation & Global Technology watch Group (GTWG) respectively to fulfill India’s commitment to UNFCC and India’s Climate Change Mission. Performed lead role by doing technology scouting, technology gap analysis, technology prioritization different sectors using Multi-Criteria-Decision-Analysis (MCDA), technical review & writing of the TNA reports.

Launched Net Zero emissions Initiative for Energy Intensive MSME clusters which aim to help/support MSMEs in gradual shifting towards decarbonizing their production and moving towards a net-zero emission. Developed understanding of the MSME supply chain, identifying GHG emissions sources, evaluation of Scope 1&2 emissions as per GHG Protocol, analysis of data and suggesting roadmap for achieving net zero goal for the cluster.

My major achievement was to be the part of long-term technology foresight exercise i.e., preparation of Technology Vision 2035 document for the country and to fulfill the aspirations by 2035, came up with Technology Roadmaps. As a Key coordinating officer and Member Secretary for the sector Energy, water and Environment for TV 2035, I was Responsible for data mining, technology identification and report writing in three sectors, i.e. energy, water and environment. Technology Vision 2035 was released by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 3rd Jan. 2016 which entails fulfilling needs and aspirations of Indians through visualizing technology in short medium and long term.

I also developed expertise in scenario building in the area of environment, water and energy. Scenario building is one of the foresight tools that helps us to build alternate plausible scenario in view of current trends, projections and uncertainties which forms the basis to policy, technology and management interventions by decision makers and stakeholders.

I got in hand experience to work for Technology Refinement and Marketing Program (TREMAP), a technology innovation support schemes/models to bridges the gap between prototype and market by pushing the innovative technology/product into the market by facilitating technology transfer or commercialization. As a Project Dealing Officer executed and managed several projects under the scheme. Also coordinated, managed and responsible for disbursement of program operation funds under the network of TRMAP for scouting innovative technology projects.

Conducted events including seminars, training, workshops, at national, regional and international level on environment and climate change theme. Provided technical inputs in preparation and dissemination of knowledge materials and knowledge products and coordinated with various sectoral and thematic National Advisory Group and Steering Committees made for the purpose of climate change related projects, for making of TV 2035 documents and technology roadmaps and many other such activities. Establishing good network with Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Department of Science and Technology, MSMEs, Indian Academic institutions, think tanks and industry experts was main task throughout the career in TIFAC.

Programme Officer at Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC)
  • India - New Delhi
  • June 2008 to November 2010

Worked with India-IIASA Programme, a joint collaboration between TIFAC & International Institute of Applied Systems and Analysis (IIASA), Austria an international research organization. The objective was to develop and create scientific knowledge and skills through applied research in the area of Food & water, environment, forestry, natural resources and energy & technology. Linkages between above sector with climate change were major focus in all the activities.

Accomplishments:
- Conceptualizing & writing research proposals in the area of energy, water, forestry and environment in consultation with various Indian organization/institute involved in systems analysis research
- Develop capacity building among the Indian researchers by organizing trainings on systems analysis and application of various climate change models developed by IIASA to study the impacts of climate change.
- Generating intellectual output for the policy and developing tool for Decision Support Systems (DSS)

Research Associate at Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC)
  • India - New Delhi
  • June 2006 to June 2008

Worked on the project titiled "The Building and Strengthening Institutional Capacity on Climate Change (BASIC)" a join collaborative project between TIFAC & University of Sussex, UK. It was a capacity building project - supported with the funding from the Environmental Directorate General of the European Commission. It was taken in view to strengthen in-country capacity of India, South Africa, Brazil and China to undertake analytical work to determine what kind of climate change actions best fit within their national circumstances, interest and priorities.

Accomplishments:
- Preparation of a National status paper on India's vulnerability to climate change and actions needed.
- Data collection related to climate change from various sources, literature survey, analyzing data and interpretation.
