As Senior Charge Nurse, I am responsible for overseeing and developing daily operations within the medical centre, in alignment with key client deliverables and organisation objectives. A key part of my role involves ensuring all nursing practices comply with internal nursing policies and procedures, while maintaining the highest possible care and quality standards, including but not limited to assessment health teaching, medication reconciliation, and discharge planning. And responsible for manipulating the environmental resources that achieve safe, cost effective, clinically appropriate patient care and facilitating self-confidence of staff.
I am accountable for the recruitment and leadership of the nursing team and ancillary staff, including responsibility for the planning and coordination of staff development and orientation programme and serve as representative and promote the best interests of staff and the patients. I systematically monitor and evaluate nursing practices and implement standards of patient care supported by solid evidence-based results. Furthermore, I am proactive in identifying possible problems in advance and make sure I address them in a timely and efficient manner; participating in educational in-service and seminars so as to maintain current certifications, and maintaining an awareness of advances in medicine, such as emerging diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology and health insurance developments
In this role, I have been successful in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with health care staff, medical staff and external care providers, with a focus on delivering outstanding patient care. I am also responsible for managing patient records in accordance with strict confidentiality guidelines and information security protocols as well as dealing with any complex / escalated issues from staff, patients or members of the public.

Working as a Nursing Educator at the University of Perpetual Help Dalta System (UPHDS) in the Philippines, with responsibility for teaching nursing practice. The UPHDS is one of the best universities in the Philippines, catering to over 4k students. The university subscribes to the institutional philosophy that national development and transformation is predicated upon by the quality of education provided and holds it guiding principle as 'Character Building is Nation Building.'
I taught across a wide range of nursing subjects, such as maternal and child nursing, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing and communicable diseases, medical surgical nursing and related learning experience. This involved working with 40 to 45 students per class at varying skill levels.
My main duties and responsibilities included preparing engaging lesson plans and supporting materials. I also conducted student evaluations and provided feedback as well as additional support as required. Another facet of this role, involved undertaking clinical instruction sessions where I demonstrated to students nursing care in a practical setting, working collaboratively with Clinicians on the development of appropriate student-patient assignments.
A key part of this role involved collaborative working, liaising extensively with the Unit Manager and internal teams to ensure student activities fully supported medical unit goals and objectives. I attended regular faculty meetings and participated in various development projects, including orchestrating the introduction of a weekend review program to support examination preparations.
Key achievements in this role, included securing a 100% pass rate for the licensure exam, with two students receiving the top results from the nursing board. I also achieved a ranking of 12th best academic teacher from 210 faculty members. This role was extremely rewarding, in terms of imparting my professional experience and contributing to the development of the next generation of nursing talent.
My role as Head Nurse of the Obstetrics Medical Surgical unit, involved directing and overseeing nursing services for assigned patients in the delivery and birthing units. I was responsible for assigning duties to a midwife and three nurses across every 12-hour shift, while ensuring adherence to all internal policies and procedures.
I recruited and retained a high calibre staff team; minimising staff turnover via effective recruitment, selection, orientation and training. This included conducting staff performance reviews, then providing constructive feedback, coaching and training, with additional responsibility for dealing with HR and disciplinary issues. I maintained open communication channels with the staff team, including the organisation of regular team meetings and distribution of service excellence communications.
A key element of my role involved identifying areas of improvement and providing recommendations to the Director of Nursing Services, then implementing improved work methods and procedures. I also directly contributed to the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets in addition to providing strategic input on staffing, patient flow and organisation development. I also awarded additional responsibilities, such as Acting Infection Control Nurse for a three month period, tasked with the surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI); Deputy Nurse Manager and ER Charged Nurse.
I was successful in this role in gaining commendations from the senior management team in terms of my performance. This included securing promotion to the role of Head Nurse following three months in post as well as receiving the Best Nurse Award within six months of employment. I was also awarded additional responsibilities, such as playing a key role as part of the Infection Control Committee and Quality Assurance Team; identifying and evaluating potential issues and risks, managing patient censuses and allocating specialist assignments.
I was responsible as Charge Nurse for coordinating nursing operations and providing patient care across 11 clinics, one out-patient surgery and an acute ER treatment room as part of a walk-in and urgent care clinical centre. This included supervising, training and developing a team of 15 staff members while serving as Charge Nurse for all ambulatory and out-patient services; serving 30 to 50 patients per clinic daily.
I also attended on-call visits for diverse medical issues, including asthma, bronchitis, hypertension, MI, stress ulcers, acute gastroenteritis, fractures and flu; providing rapid assessment / treatments while remaining calm and effective during life-threatening situations.
In terms of my contribution and achievements in this role, I would highlight my ability to greatly improve nursing processes and quality of care, including the regular monitoring of staff performance against rigorous patient care and quality standards.
Gerontological Home Nursing is based in the Philippines and is focused on meeting the unique and specialised needs of older adults who are hospitalised for acute illness and / or at risk due to functional decline. Primary goals include helping patients return home as soon as possible and reducing their need for re-admission to the hospital.
I was responsible for providing comprehensive geriatric nursing care to patients at this 80-bed residential facility. This included managing a caseload of patients with various healthcare requirements, including the provision of emotional support and completion of personal care duties.
Ensuring quality and safe delivery of health care services in alignment with the organisational mission, vision and objectives was crucial in this role. I also demonstrated strong leadership skills in leading and coordinating junior members of the team.
In terms of a major achievement in this role, I was successful in enhancing overall efficiency in terms of resident care plans, improving by 60% following the active monitoring of quality of care delivered.
I was responsible for delivering a complete range of nursing services within the hospital. This included obtaining and documenting patient history / medical records, assessing individual patient conditions and providing referrals for acute / chronically ill patients. I also prepared all medical equipment and assisted Physicians during patient examinations and treatments as well as monitoring patient reactions to drugs and documenting clinical trials.
In this role, I successfully maintained a high degree of accuracy to achieve optimal patient acuity monitoring as well as playing a lead role in the promotion of health education to patients
