Working within the PM/CM Department. Part of a dedicated team working on the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) project liaising and interfacing between clients, contractors and Qatar Civil Defence Department (QCDD) prior to the issue of a Fire Certificates. Reviewing of plans and materials that have been submitted. Independent third party inspections of buildings with regards passive and active fire systems, means of escape, firefighting equipment etc to fall in line with NFPA Codes and standards, submittal of reports to the client, and subsequent re-inspections. Witnessing of functional tests.
Specialist Fire Safety Officer in the NHS. Responsible for all aspects of fire safety within buildings in the Trust. Reporting directly to Government Department for Health. Fire risk assessments and audits, co-operation and liaison with other agencies such as the Fire service, building control, Police, architects, contractors and building managers. Updating policies and procedures and providing escape strategy plans. Business continuity, risk analysis, reviewing systems of work. LPT employs over 3, 000 people all of whom I am responsible for delivering fire safety training/ education on a rolling programme, specialist training in fire and evacuation /rescue procedures to first attack teams. Fire Safety Inspecting Officer. Responsibility for the fire safety and inspection/risk assessment of buildings such as Manchester International Airport (including support and ancillary buildings), various (large scale) hospitals (application of UK HTM's) and hotels in and around the Manchester area, The Trafford Centre, and large petroleum installations within the County. Expert witness, delivery of training to subordinates. Compiling and submitting legal reports to comply with stringent Government targets. Implementation of Fire legislation. Inspection and recommending/updating passive and fixed fire fighting installations, detection systems and fire safety features, arson prevention/reduction, site security. Damage limitation/ business continuity. Responsibility for supervising/ supporting subordinates and support staff.
General instructor in the Central Training Department. This involved the compilation and delivery of selection of core skills, and skills associated with specialist firefighting techniques (including the servicing and repair of all associated equipment), incident command, breathing apparatus, traffic accident rescues, water rescues, aircraft firefighting and rescue, hazardous materials and chemicals (salvage, fuel and oil containment), radiation incidents, petro-chemical/ gas incidents and fires, physical training and first aid. Responsible for trainee firefighters, their health, safety and welfare, fairness and equality. Liaison with firefighters representative bodies.
Responsibility throughout the County as part of a Task Force enforcing fire safety and risk assessment. Duties and responsibilities were the same as that of Manchester (above), however due to the structure and make up of the County the risks were different in their own right. Liaison with other legislative bodies such a building control, the Courts, police, local authority/ government departments and the Home Office. Working to tight time constraints submitting reports and recommendations to senior officers and the courts. Close liaison hospitals within the area.
Training was provided to both sectors (both physically on the training ground and in the classroom using power point presentations and other demonstrations) from basic firefighting /extinguisher courses, through to specialist risk training (chemical), rescue/ evacuation methods and techniques for hospitals, residential care homes/hotels and management control procedures. Responsible for the day to day running of the department which consisted of a number of instructors and support staff, ensuring that the unit ran professionally & effectively. Responsible for the H&S of all staff.

Compilation and submission of written reports to adhere to Government requirements and targets. Awarded a Chief Fire Officers Commendation whilst attending a house fire. Fire investigation.
