The Critical Care Nurse functions under the supervision of the Head Nurse. He/she provide total nursing care to his/her patients. This involves planning, administering and evaluating the nursing care of his/her patients. He/she administers all treatments and medications and maintains complete and accurate records of nursing assessments and nursing care. The nurse must also have expertise in recognizing complications to a critically ill patient. He/she is responsible for learning how to operate all technological equipment utilized in the unit. The functions performed require judgment based upon the application of scientific knowledge and are guided by the established standards and protocols of the hospital and the unit
Nurses care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent or disabled. Under general supervision, they deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation and reassessment in accordance with established standards. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective delivery of patient care and achieve desired treatment outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patient and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing practice. Medical-Surgical Nurses provide care for primarily to adult patients before and after surgical procedures; they also attend to those who are being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness.

The school nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides health care to students and staff and performs health screenings.
