Leading the company’s strategic implementation to streamline the production facilities towards increasing productivity, revenues, production capacity utilization, and advancing engineering capabilities. Also, re-organizing, optimizing and upgrading the current manufacturing facilities and resources to be eligible to tackle new markets, and add new products to company’s product portfolio.
As the Director of Technical Development, I assume responsibility for the development of all company’s manufacturing facilities in coordination with division managers, providing the technical support to all divisions and division managers by:
• Leading the update and advancement of all manufacturing facilities in terms of machinery layout, specifications, upgrades, and approved raw material.
• Implementing automation programs.
• Implementing digital transformation programs.
• Supporting all divisions in the acquisition of new capital equipment and machinery by selecting the right machinery based on product configurations. Leading Company’s communication, specifications, and technical negotiations with the machine suppliers.
• Optimizing manufacturing capabilities through deployment of cross-manufacturing of products between all divisions.
• Supporting R&D at all divisions in developing new products and preparing feasibility studies for new machinery and production facilities.
• Fostering technical document management and creating a technical e-library to include machinery manuals, layouts and related testing in addition to all related technical publications necessary for Company’s operation.
• Preparing training manuals on products, installation, and conducting periodic training to all staff on latest manufacturing technologies and state of the art technical skills.
• Providing technical support to sales and attending technical meetings with consultants for projects with highly technical and non-standard products.
• Participating in company’s efforts to recruit Saudi citizens and train them to adapt to manufacturing processes and acquire needed technical skills.
Adapting to the restructured system when I became responsible for the whole operation of the hollow metal doors division (HMD Division) which is the largest manufacturing division of Alkuhaimi Company. Major achievements are:
• Acquisition, deployment and implementation of the Infor LN ERP at the HMD Division: Automation of estimation process to facilitate the quotation preparation on the ERP system of custom made and highly diversified product portfolio. Customization of the ERP system to generate an interface between engineering and the technical drawings system used to prepare the shop drawings, manufacturing drawings and CNC machines programming. That made the data transfer very smooth throughout the whole operation from quotation preparation till invoicing.
• Upgrading the quality system from ISO 9001- 2000 to ISO 9001 - 2008 and then to ISO 9001 - 2015
• Improvement of manufacturing procedures for better quality with lower assembly costs by changing lay outs, special tools and equipment such as :
- Modifying the production lines for a better and smoother operation.
- Automation of product marking and data entry by introducing bar coding and scanners.
- Leading feasibility studies and completing the existing ones, related to new equipment procurement and installations such as:
Complete CNC system of storage, punching and a panel bending cell.
Robotic painting system.
PLC resistance welding machines.
CNC bending machines.
CNC gantry milling machine.
CNC Polyurethane injection and pressing system.
New wet paint and powder coating systems.
Sanding preparation booth and equipment with air handling units.
Automation of paint application.
Welding positioners and quick clamping tools.
High automation of accessories preparation.
Cut to length and slitting lines.
• New powder coating and wet painting plant: December, 2017: Launching a complete powder coating and wet painting plant at the first industrial area in Dammam that doubled the coating capacity of the division and supported other divisions by coating their products. At the same time generating a new coating business by itself. The plant has the latest technologies of different products handling, pretreatment, powder coating, and wet painting in a very flexible way. With state of art equipment and facilities.
• New production line, April, 2017: Launching a totally new production line by signing an agreement with a fire glass systems manufacturer - Technical Glass Products (TGP), who is the North America’s most specified manufacturer of fire rated glass systems. Alkuhaimi started producing the fire rated glass systems under license from TGP. Established the required systems, recruiting staff and procuring equipment to run the full cycle of operation of sales, pricing, shop drawings, procurement, manufacturing, and installation. Moved the fire glass system’s manufacturing process to a completely new plant at the first industrial area in Dammam in April, 2020.
Leading the improvement of manufacturing procedures to enhance quality and to lower assembly costs by changing layouts of special tools and equipment such as:
• Establishing a well-defined and stream lining of hollow metal doors assembly line.
• Establishing a well-defined and stream lining of hollow metal doors frames assembly line.
• Introducing a high level of automation on the shop floor in terms of material and finished products handling and processing.
• Making feasibility studies related to new equipment procurement and installation including:
o Complete CNC system of storage, punching and laser cutting.
o Frames robotic welding system.
o Frames robotic bending system.
o PLC resistance welding machines.
o CNC bending machines.
o CNC vertical milling machine.
o CNC lathe.
o CNC Plasma, Oxyfuel and drilling system.
o Shot blasting booth and equipment.
o Paint booth and equipment.
o Automation of paint application.
o Automatic wrapping machines.
o Welding positioners and quick clamping tools.
o Automation of accessories preparation.
o Air compressors and air systems.
• Launching the 3rd plant at the second industrial area- Dammam for specialized heavy metal work.
• Achieving company goal of increasing our output steadily to meet sales targets. Sales of manufactured products were tripled in a 6 years period
• ISO 9001-2000 Achievement:
o Part of the team responsible in implementation of ISO 9001- 2000
o Participating in preparation of company quality policy, quality manual and procedures as per ISO 9001-2000 requirements
o Preparing standard procedures, work instructions and forms related to production department as per ISO 9001-2000
o Implementation of ISO 9001-2000 in the production department. And being among the certified ISO auditors doing the periodic internal audits
Major Accomplishments:
• Establishing a well-defined engineering criterion to design different types of products: Accordion, commercial, industrial, and overhead sectional doors.
• Preparing standard procedures, calculations, and manufacturing drawings.
• Design of heavy industrial rolling doors with torsion spring counter balance.
• Design of fire rated rolling door that passed the fire test as per international standards.
• Design of special type doors such as: Oversized rolling doors, Crane away doors, Rolling doors with intermediate removable mullions or wicket doors.
• Input on mega projects estimation in terms of material take off, man hours estimation and introducing alternatives in terms of cost and specifications to meet projects requirements.
• Participating in introducing new products like fast acting doors, gate barriers, gate openers.
• Improvement on manufacturing procedures for better quality with lower assembly costs by changing lay outs, special tools and equipment.
In charge of Roll-Up door production with similar responsibilities mentioned above but at the old production facility of Alkuhaimi Metal Industries Ltd., prior to launching an independent division and opening factory for Roll-Up Doors. Reporting directly to the Production Manager.
• March 1989- April 1991: Production Engineer, National Plastic Factory, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Responsible for overseeing Production of all injection and blow moulding products and designing of moulds for plastic products.
Reported directly to the Production Manager and led a team of Production Supervisors and 30 machine operators.
• April 1988- March 1989: Maintenance Engineer, National Plastic Factory, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Responsible for the maintenance of plastic moulds and approximately 30 injection and blow moulding machines.
