USAID-funded ARE (Agricultural and Rural Empowerment) Activity Implemented by Chemonics International
• Engaged in a USAID-funded project called Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) Activity in Lebanon, valued at $57 million supporting agribusinesses and agricultural stakeholders to increase sales and enhance livelihoods through a market-led approach.
• Conducted risk assessments for over 100 projects, with a total budget of around 15 million dollars, primarily focusing on water management, sanitation, waste management, specifically within the agri-food and dairy chain.
• Actively participated in the initial projects design phase to ensure adherence to both engineering and environmental standards.
• Led the drafting of a revised version of the PERSUAP (Pesticide Evaluation Report and Safe Use Action Plan) in accordance with the latest regulations set forth by the Ministry of Agriculture.
• Created a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) pamphlet and supported in the development of training materials for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers by implementing natural and organic methods.
• Led the development of environmental management plans and devised mitigation measures to address potential environmental impacts as well as created a project inspection management plan to oversee and conduct inspections for the 60 ongoing projects, ensuring timely coordination and effective implementation of environmental measures across all initiatives.
• Expanded expertise to include the tourism industry, encompassing hotels, guest houses, tour operators, and biospheres, in addition to agri-food sectors.
