Responsibilities
-Oversaw the library at the Hagop Kevorkian Center, organized files, reshelved books, and ensured that the library was maintained in an orderly fashion.
-Helped students and visitors navigate the collection at the library. When students needed to find a book, I would find the book for them.
-Organized and set up academic events. There were usually events twice every week related to different fields and topics related to the Middle East. I was responsible for setting up the events and assisting the presenters with whatever they needed.
-Answered questions about the program for any visitors or potential students who came to the center.
Research focus: Did research related to the 2011 Egyptian Uprisings. Focused on a group of activists called ultras, whose foundation was not as political activists, but as soccer fans. The research sought to trace the trajectory and transformation of the group from soccer fans into political activists. While at the center, I was also compelled to complete numerous tasks and assignments simultaneously, which allowed me to develop strong multitasking skills. The skills I learned at the Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies are invaluable. The Kevorkian Center fosters an environment which promotes critical thinking and challenges students to engage with complex ideas and concepts on a daily basis.
