The Cairo Monorail, is a two-line monorail rapid transit system currently under construction in Cairo, Egypt. The
two lines will create the first public transport links from the New Administrative Capital and 6th of October City
to the Cairo metropolitan area when the project is complete. The 54km line connecting the New Administrative
City with East Cairo will take 60 minutes, and the 42km line connecting 6th of October City with Giza will take 42
minutes. As Project Director Matt is responsible for the overall management of the project on behalf of the
National Authority for Tunnels, leading a large team of local and expatriate technical, project controls, quality,
health and safety, contracts, system assurance, construction supervision and testing and commissioning staff.
, responsible for the management of civil works design with Besix, (one half of the D & C
Consortium with Alstom). The tram system consists of 10.6km of track, including 2.6km elevated viaducts, 11
stations and a depot and maintenance facility. He is responsible for managing the design consultants and
heading up the civil/systems interfaces, Requirements Management, systems engineering and safety assurance
as well as tracking and reporting the status of all design approvals. This included developing various tracking and
reporting tools for the design progress and the preparation of weekly dashboards to show the status at a glance
to senior management and the client. Matt also played a key client facing role, presenting design issues and
seeking final approvals of the design with the Roads and Transportation Authority. As a bridge and structures
expert he has managed all technical issues related to the viaduct and the refurbishment of two major crossings
over Dubai Marina, including the replacement of bearings and structural repairs.

infrastructure, Systems and Rolling Stock projects. Lead major bids for LRT, MRT, Heavy Rail and High Speed rail

• Technical and Project Director for various consultancy projects for KL Monorail, East Coast Rail Link as well as
tender support for system and trackwork bids, including Klang Valley BRT.
• Jakarta LRT Feasibility Study and Project Management Consultant, Indonesia responsible for setup of PMS team
and preparing feasibility for 20km LRT system with Jakarta.
Business Development and various bids and proposals for Mtrans Group. Conducting conceptual studies and
developing monorail; based solutions and proposals to clients around the world, including alignment plans,
technical proposals, commercial proposals, including project at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, Gangnam and
Gwangmeong, Seoul, Damascus and Tehran.
• Putrajaya Monorail Project, Malaysia: project director Mtrans Group company for this 13.3 kilometre transit
project consisting of at grade, underground and elevated guideway structures. Responsible for development of
alignment design and detailed structural design using in house design team, preparation of Integrated Master
Implementation Schedule, including all civil and system design, procurement, supply, construction testing and
commissioning.

span design and build suspension bridge for Putrajaya Monorail system, consisting of major piled foundations,
backstay anchorages, pylons with fabricated plate girders, precast guideway beams and suspension cable
systems. Scope also included developing extensive temporary works and erection and bridge launching methods
such as bridge jacking, skidding and multiple hydraulic lifting circuits.
• Putrajaya Western Transportation Terminal, Malaysia: project director for Mtrans Group company for turnkey
integrated transport hub for monorail, high speed rail, buses and taxis. Scope included managing design and
construction of terminal over the live KL International Airport Express Rail line.
• Kuala Lumpur Monorail Project, Malaysia: project director with Mtrans Group / IJM joint venture company for
this 8.6-kilometre transit project entirely elevated through the central business district. Responsible for detailed
structural design of guideway beams, operation of precasting yard for guideway structure and erection of
precast beams using sophisticated temporary works systems, and crane launching methods. Responsible for
development of precasting and erection systems for guideway and station structures as well as operation and
construction of structural works for elevated stations. Also responsible for managing design and construction of
substructure and piers including temporary works and traffic management.
