Education

Master's degree, Conflict Management
  • at University of Port Elizabeth/ NMU
  • April 2003

* The ability to study on a part time basis and simultaneously teach is quite a daunting task. * Had to look for an organization that would allow me to do my internship within the Police Service. * Had to go and meet with its management and negotiate the terms of reference for my internship. * Also had to negotiate to help their staff on weekends and school holidays for dispute resolution, procedural recourse, report writing, case filing and archiving processes. *

Bachelor's degree, International And Comparative Education
  • at University Of The Western Cape
  • September 1995

Whilst doing my B. Ed on a part time basis, I was also also working for the Audio Visual Service of the University of the Western Cape. 75% of my wages covered my tuition and the remaining 25 % of that wages, I shared with my two siblings. I was also nominated to be the Convernor and Coordinator of our research group and had to submit not only progress report to our lecturer, but the finished report by presenting it in front of my student colleagues.

Bachelor's degree, Contemporary History
  • at University Of The Western Cape
  • March 1994

Not much happened whilst doing this undergraduate bachelors degree except for writing and submission of assignments, major tests and examinations. I was the member of the Creative Arts University Choir and also and at times nominated to present the Choir's requests to the Vice Chancellor's Office.

Higher diploma, Pedagogy and teaching methodologies
  • at University Of The Western Cape
  • April 1993

This was quite a very intense academic as well as practical exercise for over a year. Firstly, I was taught how to write a lesson plan, had to identify the objectives of the lesson and list the aides/ tools I was going to use to achieve my objectives. I had to be on the ground doing my teaching practice at a selected school and had to undergo extensive supervision, cross examinations on how to handle a particular scenario prevalent during my practical. What else could I have explored to resolve a situation? How else could I have helped a student facing a certain academic challenge? These were live and practical scenarios presented to me and had I to improvise and thought on my feet to provide solutions. During the lesson I had to be open to the idea of providing the students the time and space to explain themselves and provide a basis for their conclusions. After every teaching practice session, I had to fill in and submit a performance score card as well as a Report on my performance, shortcomings and mitigating actions to overcome my shortcomings. This I had to do for around four months and the rest of the year was set aside for theoretical exercises and work.
