The 2 months spent at KPMG as an intern along with the 3 years and 3 months, was a learning experience where it helped me to develop my Microsoft Office skills, including how to use an audit software and improved my technical and communication skills.
Having audited large, well known clients helped me a lot in understanding how different industries work. This experience also allowed me an insight into the important work auditors undertake.
My responsibilities included:
Assisting Senior Audit Associates in the course of Audit;
Participates in the pre-engagement planning, with team members and client staff when needed. Discuss client’s
need/expectations, team roles, budgets and other things necessary to carry out the engagement;
Obtaining a process understanding from the client and documenting it;
Performed substantive procedures and test of controls in place relating to the respective clients;
Performed analytical procedures over variances in the client’s financial statements;
Help new recruited associates and assist in settling in; Coaching and delegating to team members;
Attending stock and cash counts; and
Audit administration (casting and cross referencing, photocopying, filing, call over, translation and summarization).
Started as a Waiter:
I was responsible and accountable for delivering quality and well displayed food to customers at good temperature and on time.
I was part of a team lead by the Captain Waiter to serve food and beverages to customers.
Then promoted to Captain Waiter:
I actively listened to customers’ complaints and concerns and managed to find relevant solutions that suited customers’ expectations.
I approached clients and was able to build and maintain relationships with them by learning and remembering their preferences.
I proactively coordinated with restaurant staff to achieve, and improve upon, high level customer satisfaction.
I became aware of my own leadership style and learned to capitalize on my personal strengths.
Then to Room Service Captain:
I thoroughly monitor and control the inventory and expiry dates of all items in the minibar.
I receive customer requests/complaints and persevere towards satisfying/solving them.
I continuously coordinate with my manager demonstrating reliability, accountability and team spirit.
