Al Jazeera Academy is a major private international academy in Doha, Qatar. It serves a co-ed British styled education system with students sitting examinations for the Edexcel and Cambridge systems. As also a year 12 girls Form Tutor, I had to deal with morning attendance, briefing and general school administrative duties. I also attended to parent evenings and liaising with members of staff on pupil progress. As I started late in 2013, replacement in an emergency leave position, I was given the exclusive responsibility of seeing through and assisting both years 12 boys and girls preparing for their international exams. Early in 2014, I was given the responsibilities of Business Studies year 10 and 11 and their preparation for IGCSE. I was also teaching some additional ICT clases to students from year 7 to 10. I was also involved in cultural and sporting activities as extra-curricular activities. I left because I needed to take care of family affairs as my mother had just passed away.

I prepared Business Studies and ESL study material for classroom including text book, worksheets, workshops and group exercises. I planned, set and assessed student’s class and homework. I monitored the performance of pupils in my class and provided encouragement to those who needed additional support. I was a Form tutor dealing with attendance, general oversight, attending parent evenings and liaising with members of staff on pupil progress as well as being the Acting HOD for commerce department.
The pupils received regular classwork, homework, drop quizzes and tests. Seychelles International is the most prestigious colleges in the Seychelles with the majority of the students being children of Western expatriates. I taught Business Studies to year 10, 11, and 12 and ICT year 10 and 11 on a part time basis at The Seychelles International School while in the last three years I was extensively involved with functional skills in mathematics.

I was the ICT head in both KS 3 and 4 to learners having mixed abilities and needs in 16-19 age range. I assessed the learners in the course of their study in Business Studies and ICT. I was involved with additional learning supports helping and supporting learners with their work and preparing them for IGCSE and A’ Level exams. I was responsible for maintaining a good record of students’ retention and achievements for the whole school. I used extensively the college management information system. I organised Business Studies and ICT resources for other tutors to use both electronically and paper based files.

Teacher of Business Studies/Legal Studies and Food Technology at Swifts Creek Secondary College
  • Australia
  • January 2002 to December 2003

I taught Business Studies and Legal Studies to KS 3, 4 and 5. and Food Technology to Yr 8, 9 and 10 Students. For Business and Legal Studies, i prepared students over three years to sit the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) for University entry. This included the preparation of study materials for classroom including text book, worksheets, workshops and group exercises. I planned, set and assessed student’s class and homework. I monitored the performance of pupils in my class and provided encouragement to those who needed additional support. Since Swifts Creek Secondary College was a very small and the most remote school in the state of Victoria, the classes were extremely small with some classes such as Legal Studies in year 12 attracting only two students. On the other hand, the school had very little resources and as a teacher, resources had to be improvised.
For Food Technology, I prepared class materials for the theory classes at all three levels and also prepared cooking class materials for the practical classes. On a termly basis i also prepared for theoretical exams. Extreme monitoring was necessary for the practical classes due to the high probability of accidents and severe cuts, burns or hard falls from spills. Part of the duties of the Food Technology teacher is also to stock take, rotate and place orders for kitchen stock and adhere to strict budgets.
