I'm currently working as a Geologist in Exploration department, which makes me responsible to involve in Geological and Geophysical exploration activities in the company. Analyzing, understanding and interpreting available Geological and Geophysical data, preparation of reports, prepare and deliver presentations. In Addition to office based activities, I also have to participate in field activities; with that I have supervised FTG acquisition project.
During this time of my professional life, I was mainly acting as a field Geologist in various mineral exploration projects (Gold and Base Metal exploration) in various parts of the country (Ethiopia). The main tasks I had was mainly the field study which is Geological & Geochemical Exploration, Geological & Structural Mapping and data collection, Geological sampling (Rock sampling) Geochemical sampling (Stream Sediment, Soil, Rock chip, Heavy mineral concentrate sampling) and structural measurements. The post-field task was to organize the data collected in the field, mapping, interpretation of data and report writing.
Quality Control of Seismic acquisition activities and daily report writing of the seismic acquisition crew. This is a place where I learnt and gained experience to work with different crews with large number of groups (around 280 crew members).
The main responsibility of the job was to take part in mineral exploration projects as an Assistant Exploration Geoscientist. The responsibilities are categorized in three sections:-
The Pre-Field activity:- collection and compilation of previous studies and reports for selection of target areas for mineral resource potential evaluation, Site-map preparation,
The Field activity:- Geological Mapping, Prospect evaluation (Pitting,
Trenching, Logging, chip sampling, rock sampling), structural and
geological data collection, and
Post-Field activity:- Data and Sample preparation for laboratory analysis, data/result interpretation, Map preparation, report writing.
The program was given by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in collaboration with Institute Francias Du Petrol (IFP School). I Completed the program with Great Distinction. I did a Facies Reservoir Modelling on one of the producing fields of Malay Basin during my industrial Project which was a fulfillment of the program.
The study was intended to produce Earth Science professionals, who can be able to work in the multidisciplinary sectors of Earth Science. Students were expected to conduct three field works in all petrology courses and submit the reports as a dissertation, which I have completed all with "A" Grade. My final CGPA has also allowed me to win a scholarship to study Masters Degree which came through the University.
