Fabrication/Welding Supervisor

For the past 35 years working for various local and international companies as a fabrication/welding supervisor. Served apprenticeship as a Shipbuilder with the
South African naval dockyard, qualifying in 1978. For the past 25 years I have been mostly focused on the oil and gas industry, which included oilrigs of different classes, exploration vessels, FPSO’s and many refineries. I also concluded
countless shipbuilding and ship repair projects.
Since 2010 I have been actively engaged with Transocean on various projects abroad. Areas on the rig for upgrade were mud pump room, mudpits, settling
room, shaker room, deludge lines, choke and kill lines, raw water lines, jetting
lines, spud can repairs, turn table and top drive on drill floor, steel replacement
on ballast tanks, crane boom repairs.
Fabrication includes plate work, structural steel, pipe fabrication and fitting, small
bore pipe fitting (hydraulics/pneumatics) and general mechanical fitting. I am also
familiar with workshop work and it’s relevant equipment used for the development of steel shapes, such as rolling machines, press brake, guillotines,
oxy/acetylene profile cutters, plasma cutters and overhead cranage. I am also familiar with most facades of welding procedure specifications used in fabrication,
which includes SMAW, SAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW. Where required certain pipes are subjected to a hydrotest and finally NDT depending on the QCP requirements. Materials most commonly used is carbon steel. I am also familiar
with stainless steel, incanel, duplex, aluminium, inox, benox and many other exotic materials such as brass and copper. Many jobs also require PWHT prior to welding, again depending on the quality control plan.
I am also familiar with general rigging activities, having conducted my own slinging and lifting, including hand signs to crane operator on many contracts.
Safety is always my highest priority and I have never had a lost time incident on
my watch since becoming a supervisor. I have engaged with many different avenues of the trade which included shipbuilding/repair, aluminum yacht building, FPSO upgrades, nuclear power stations, petro-chemical refineries,
flour mill industry, oilrigs, tank/tanker building, fabrication yards and work shops.
Quality control is also of utmost importance, as this will ensure that the specifications are adhered to and result in the client being happy and satisfied.
I also gained a wealth of experience in Angola, having spent three and a half years
In a fabrication yard with Stolt (now Acergy). Clients included Chevron, Exxon Mobil, SBM, ABB, Cooper Cameron, Saaibos, Technip. We fabricated buoys, jackets, manifolds, platforms, gravity bases, mid-water arches, suction anchor piles, ROV docking stations, flare booms and many modules.
