Office of Economic Affairs
Advised the Ambassador, DCM, Economic Section Chief, and other American FSOs on a variety of important and often highly sensitive macro and micro-economic economic/political matters, providing context and insight. Advised Embassy Economic Diplomat Officers on the most effective way of implementing U.S. policy in the economic/political, historical, and cultural context of Egypt. Coordinated events, including, but not limited, seminars, webinars, and conferences on cutting edge economic issues of relevance to Egypt and the region in collaboration with staff in other US Posts and Washington DC or other international organizations. Assisted in writing periodic and regular Department of State economic and trade related reports, including the Special 301, National Trade Estimate, Investment Climate, and Fiscal Transparency. Conducted technical research on economic issues of relevance to the mission and cooperate with universities, research institutes, and think tanks in Egypt. Engaged with Investors to gauge and progress interest by conducting face-to-face meetings and attending networking events and conferences. Reviewed and monitored activities in the country or region assigned; assesses trends which might affect the economic/political situation; analyses economic/business and related events within assigned areas. Maximized contacts for U.S. corporates with Government of Egypt and arranged face to-face meetings with Egyptian ministers, senior officials, economic parliamentary groups and business associations. Monitored and analyzed the entire spectrum of economic, investment, social and political developments in Egypt. Undertook market analysis to determine new target investors in renewable energy & the associated supply chain. Maintained in-depth knowledge of the local economy, a very good relationship with the local government, the private sector, financial institutions, key industrial sectors, academic, and governmental/multilateral agencies. Performed technical analytical reporting on Egyptian economy, and commercial developments. Provided quick and in-depth interpretation of published and unpublished economic policies. Provided translation& services as needed.
