Sales & Performance Management
Driving Revenue: Setting daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets for the team and developing strategies to hit them (e.g., promoting high-margin items like accessories or premium instruments).
Staff Training: Coaching floor staff on sales techniques, product demonstrations, and customer service. This includes teaching staff how to properly qualify a customer (e.g., figuring out if a parent is looking for a beginner guitar or an advanced upgrade for their child).
Financing & Rental Programs: Overseeing rent-to-own programs for school band instruments or managing store financing options for high-end gear.
2. Inventory & Merchandising
Stock Curation: Monitoring market trends to stock the right mix of inventory, from popular digital keyboards and audio interfaces to classic acoustic guitars and essential accessories (reeds, strings, sticks).
Vendor Relations: Liaising with instrument manufacturers and distributors to secure competitive pricing, exclusive deals, or manage warranty returns.
Visual Merchandising: Ensuring the showroom floor is organized, visually appealing, and inviting. Instruments must be safely displayed but accessible enough for customers to test out.
3. Customer & Community Relations
Expert Consultation: Stepping in to handle complex sales, high-value clients, or custom orders (like a custom-shop Fender guitar or a professional digital audio workstation setup).
Connecting with Local Music Scene: Building relationships with local school band directors, music teachers, and gigging musicians to position the shop as their go-to supplier.
In-Store Events: Organizing workshops, product clinics (e.g., a drum clinic hosted by a brand representative), or open-mic nights to drive foot traffic and foster community.
4. Operations & Team Leadership
Staff Scheduling: Managing floor coverage to ensure there are always knowledgeable staff members available, especially during peak weekend hours.
Service Department Coordination: Overseeing the intake for instrument repairs, setups, and tuning services, ensuring the repair technicians are meeting deadlines.
Loss Prevention: Implementing security measures to prevent the theft of small, high-value items (like pedals or microphones) and ensuring delicate instruments are handled safely by the public.
